I'm not basing my entire purchase on this singular concern. It's just the final hurdle.
Not much charging is conveniently available for the use case of needing 500 miles of range.
True when going from empty to full, but maybe not as true when comparing charge time to add... let's say 300 miles...
I agree, that is a better question. What is the answer? The weight is a concern for me. Even the current weight of the CT is concerning. Where I hunt we have guys slide off and roll downhill almost every winter. The added weight means sinking deeper in the mud holes or more inertia sliding on...
Who will come to market first?
When?
I'm not talking about the CT range extender unless it can be easily removed and plugged in by the owner.
The Silverado WT4 is at 450 now.
RAM is now saying 2026 for their 500 mile version.
No idea what Ford is planing for their gen2 Lightning.
I'm still...
I get cranky.
Then I remember that I put $100 down for a $70k, 500+ mile, AWD, tri-motor, variant of this truck and to my knowledge they are not delivering those yet.
Then I'm no longer cranky.
Turns out the answer was CT resales for $300k, line skippers, questions about when OG reservation holders would get their trucks, vinyl wraps, vinyl wraps, vinyl wraps....oh and more vinyl wraps.
There is, but I would need a couple hundred feet of extensions. Or I do the generator charging at night. Right now, I'm thinking that's the best option.
The reality is this discussion for me is pointless at the price point of the CT right now. Can but wouldn't do it.
I used to be on...
Definitely not. I do bow season sleeping in the truck 1 or 2 nights at a time. No way I'm doing a week in colder temps that way.
Yup. Considering those options... actually I haven't considered insulation for the CT.
But definitely considering generators to add range overnight. I just...
True, except my bed will often have other stuff in it. And setting up and tearing down a panel system 2 times a day in the dark sounds terrible....unless it's extremely easy to do. Like plug it in and roll it out. Unplug and roll it up.
Hunting season. It will be cold. Generally very close to 0 overnight. Sometimes colder. Maybe 30 during the day. I don't have a great way to charge overnight. I can not arrive with a full charge. I'll be there a week.
I drive about 60 miles a day during that week. Typically driving...
Although those locations will be useful in general to all EVs, they won't really help me when I need the extra battery capacity or solar option to charge. Week long camping scenarios in CO, mid November and later, cold weather.
The current CT specs and price have already broken this truck for me. The solar cover option might still keep the dream alive.
Although novel, the range extender option takes up bed space and leaves us with an uneven surface.
Sure I would consider an aftermarket version. But I'm not going...
