I don't understand the reason for this, I've heard Tesla will ship vehicle from NJ to Maine for $750. Seems like there should be a way to pickup a vehicle in NH, MA or VT. Will Maine pickup be possible when Portland Tesla site is open
M (35 riverside st). Thanks

The car dealership model has many protectionism laws around the country passed over the years.
Then a small army of lobbyists to protect those laws and the thing they have going.

Tesla is at the mercy of these laws. Over the years they tried the lobby thing, tried the publicity thing, but in the end many of the laws still exist.

The NADA is the big one, but each state has its own group as well that lobbies state and local.

Protect the cookie jar at all costs.

Yep, and these lobbyists and laws just create a protected monopoly, which is a joke since the whole point is to prevent monopolies. A sad example of our government and the system.

I heard in the past, it was because maine doesn't allow dealerships? And the closest dealership center for Maine buyers was NJ to get around the legal aspect of car shopping for that state.
