I'm waiting on a CT like most of us here.
At Investor Day they hinted at a van version of the object of our affliction.
If they put a Cybervan on a pre-order I'll have one reserved fast.
Once it is being built I'll drop the CT like a bad habit.
My guess is a CV will be the perfect truck for...
Drivers (and I use the term loosely) slam into things because they are distracted and riding around with their head up their third point of contact.
Most people aren't driving, they're aiming and hoping for the best.
I was a Drivers Trainer/License Examiner and Accident Investigator in the Army...
I was explaining how EV's would eventually replace ICE vehicles over the next twenty years to a buddy of mine. He is an old school welder that uses a big diesel dually to haul his welding and cutting equipment around.
He said "you buy that fancy electric truck and watch the price of electricity...
Not a dealership in any shape, form or function.
The buyer still orders on line and arranges financing.
Although at some point when there is more production than demand it might be possible to pick one out off the lot, buy it online and drive it home.
Service/repair would still be provided by...
I have been to GigaAustin and it is an imposing sight,
You can look at the drone footage and say "damn that's big" but it's not until you drive around it do you realize the huge scale.
Security is pretty tight but I "hid in plain sight" and managed to drive up to the main building but even my...
I bought a 2022 RAM 3500 Dually last year (the Diesel Pig).
It gets crappy mileage for a diesel and you pay for DEF on top of high diesel prices.
There is an issue with frame breakage on some trucks when loaded heavy.
Since we pull heavy gooseneck trailers I hope we don't have an issue with...
I have the same questions.
I watch WhambamTeslacam on Youtube and they often tell what repairs cost for some Teslas.
Some of them seem outrageous and often the cars are totaled by the insurance companies.
These are cars that are pretty much like repairing a standard ICE vehicles using...
If the CT has hard points up front to attach a Brush Bumper with a Reese hitch and a rear hitch the rack could be removable and attach front and back.
Some stabilization legs that would sit on the top (with pads to protect the stainless steel from scratching) would keep things from moving...
I found it ironic that in a future where fuel was dammed hard to come by all the warring factions drove the most fuel sucking vehicles imaginable.
In reality they would all prob be on mopeds or driving beater compacts with 4 banger engines but that wouldn't be as cool.
I used to read a series...
Keep It Simple Stupid
We tried to live by this mantra in the Army but were routinely overruled by the higher ups.
I think the engineers that designed the HETT system had never been inside a truck much less operated one with the GVR of almost 200,000 pounds.
My insurance company (USAA) bases rates on age, driving record, where you live and drive and how many claims you turn in.
If Tesla can beat their rates (and can sell insurance in AL) I'll go with them.
My only concern is if they use the data they download to determine rates.
I'm a fairly sedate...
Welcome to my world.
I could live with 4 wheel steering.
As for four wheel independent steering the only comparison I have is with the military HETT that we used to haul the M1 Main Battle Tank.
The tractor had a steering axle and three pull axles. The rear pull axle steered.
The...
I'm around 400,000 in line.
I'm guessing late 2024 for mine but would be happy if it was built sooner.
One plus on being that far down is most of the production bugs should be worked out of it.
The other plus it that I should only have two vehicle payments to make and the other month to month...
Ref the storing of the castings:
When Monro and Associates took the Model Y apart a while back Sandy commented on the machine work on the casting.
I assume the machining takes place on the line but could it be that they are machined off the assembly line and then taken to the line as needed...
Auto shows are for manufacturers to hype their latest model updates and show off concept vehicles that may never be produced.
My guess is it is not cheap to display and put on a dog and pony show at these events.
Tesla doesn't go to trade shows for the same reason they don't pay PR firms to push...
I agree that anybody that can drive a Tesla car could probably drive the semi.
Bobtailed (no trailer) and in a big wide opened parking lot.
I was a long haul trucker for most of my adult life and driving a loaded tractor trailer on the highway and in constricted urban areas is not for the faint...
My limit on the CT is prob around 80K depending on how many debts I can pay off before Telsa tells me mine is being built.
My goal it to finance it without having to sell too many shares of Tesla stock (I bought 5 shares today when my welfare check hit the bank).
My payment on the Diesel Pig is...
As a former long haul trucker (I hung up my spurs in 2002) I think the Semi has huge potential as a replacement for the Class 8 Tractors.
I'm not real crazy about the center seating for the driver but I haven't driven one so I'll reserve my opinion on the off chance I may get some wheel time on...
