I did this with mine last summer. MUCH easier to deal with. I leave them stacked on the dash most of the time. Sometimes I put one up, sometimes both. I've thought of putting magnets or something where I cut but probably not worth the bother.

No, they don't. My observation is that they are about the same sound level but maybe not as harsh of a sound. They do feel smoother to both my wife and I. No significant difference in range observed.
