Much as I love EV's, if 120v was the only kind of home charging I could muster... I wouldn't own one. Full stop.
And the Cybertruck, with its much larger pack, only aggravates all that.
Glad it works for some. I ain't among 'em.
@PaulConner sounds like your pack wasn't up to temp when you began your Supercharging session. Looks like it got there (~120f) during the middle of your session. Be interesting to see what you would get in the same scenario with a hot pack upon arrival.
Great post! Keep those sacrificial...
At the Cybertruck reveal in November of 2019 I still expected Tesla to go broke. In the seven weeks between then and when I took a flyer on a reservation - at a hundred bucks I wasn't exactly risking much - I had come around to thinking they might make it.
People quickly forget what a...
You definitely got your money's worth! Most of us would be happy to pay five grand for that amount of work!
Alas, seems the majority of quotes are in that same neighborhood, cost-wise, for about 1/10th the work.
The denial of whole-house backup via the Tesla PowerShare is not an NEC issue; and I'm very doubtful if the local authority having jurisdiction (the ultimate arbiter) prohibits it. But most locales give the local utility broad discretion on interconnections beyond the main panel.
An analogous...

Roger that. Whole house backup generators are a whole different kettle of fish... both in having their switchover happen automatically; and typically providing enough power to drive most anything the owner wishes, obviating that homeowner from having to understand or think about load amperages...
Well, the Gateway + Sub Panel config is like a standard transfer switch in that specific circuits have been pre-identified to be backed up; and presumably the sum of those circuits does not exceed the output of the alternative power source (the Cybertruck, in this case).
The Full Panel config...
@GatorCyber is correct... nearly all the PowerShare quotes we're seeing are complete ripoffs.
There are two possible configurations you can have with the PowerShare Gateway. First is wiring the Gateway between the meter and the main panel - essentially a whole-house backup.
The second...
You don't provide details on your original quote, but it sounds like that config was having the PowerShare Gateway wired directly between your meter and your panel. In effect providing whole-house backup, but requiring you to actively manage which loads are used, when... because the output of...
It would be interesting to see how/when/why Austin ships CT's. How target destinations shift and change.
I imagine you'll see your VIN very shortly, with likely a quick turnaround for delivery once it appears. I'm hoping to get pinged for delivery very soon. Hopefully this week. It's been...
No real risk, other than it begs the question of why? If your CT is plugged in for the duration of your absence, it will be perfectly fine, Sentry Mode and all.
Battery degradation accelerates with higher states of charge. 80% isn't awful. But lower is better.
If it were me, I'd set it to...
I can be OCD about a few things, but obsessing over very minor panel gap differences ain't among 'em. When I picked up my Model 3 a couple years ago, I looked it over with the same reasonably-critical-but-not-overly-obsessive perspective that I've brought to every other vehicle I've ever...
And just to point out that the Cybertruck is about half as efficient as a Model 3 or Model Y. So for a given number of miles driven, it will take about twice as long on a given L2 charger.
I've charged my Model 3 the last couple of years on a 240v/20-amp circuit. That was adequate, barely...
Amen. Similar here. My funding is coming from a couple of 28-day T-Bills. They don't mature for four more days and I've been holding my breath lest I receive the ready-for-delivery app update.
Most folks paying cash for all, or a significant portion of, a $100K+ FS vehicle need a few days...
Competitive rifle shooter (benchrest). Am contemplating picking up a small electric, temperature-controlled, humidor that I can leave ammo in until just before a relay.
The idea for quick access to a shop vac is pretty excellent, too.
Tesla doesn't do model-year updates like the ICE OEM's. It institutes continual, incremental improvement both in hardware and software, throughout the "model year."
There will be no "big update" for the 2025 Cybertruck.
Congrats!
Your build is 700ish after mine. Pretty fresh off the line, looks like.
Your VIN also suggests that 20K was not the cutoff for the FS. Since that wasn't it, I'm guessing it (the FS cutoff) is probably 7/1. We'll know in a few days, if all those with open invites see those invites...
The Cybertruck is presently a loss for Tesla. At $80K. At $100K. And at $120K.
The issue isn't price. It's volume. Until and unless Tesla can significantly scale production, they'll continue to lose money on every truck they sell.
The Model S was a loss for Tesla.
The Model X was a loss...
