Jeff, no way of knowing what configuration will be available in what order. For instance, if there's a shortage of motors, or a decision to keep the cost down, we'd expect the one-motor version first.
We also don't know which will have priority: order of payments made (and payers will be told...
The purpose of a steering knob is to overcome a slow-rotating wheel. But I expect the CT yoke will be fast (and variable, so you have good control at speed, and minimal rotation while parking). So the answer is yes, you can mount a knob anywhere, and no, since it would serve no purpose on a...
Let's assume that Tesla engineers know what they're doing. And that the CT yoke will not have to be rotated so much that drivers wish it were round. Then I predict that most CT drivers, once used to the yoke, will prefer it.
At least for CTs destined for delivery in the snowbelt there's a serious need for a front-mount snowplow attachment that will accommodate either a generic plow or one from Tesla.
What makes everybody think that the CTs will go to reservers in the order of their reservation number? There are two variables other than reservation number that could determine timing.
One variable will be what models will come off the line earliest (although a buyer could agree to accept an...
But the Y, in terms of how it's made, is just a modestly modified 3 (of which almost a million were produced). The CT requires a lot more first-time stuff.
An insurance exec tells me that to his knowledge, theft claims for Teslas are virtually unknown in the industry. Like for an entire year throughout the country, maybe all of two.
I trust it can be driven when full up (like the Citroens I owned in the 60s). That's the feature that impelled me to order a CT. Of course, when full up (or down) there's no suspension movement, so you have to inch along. But my driveway is 1000 ft long in a snowbelt in Canada.
Incidentally...
Are battery vehicles less likely to he hijacked? My web search found half saying yes, half no! But there was what looked like authoritative data that Teslas have a low rate of such reports.
All makers are trying to make their vehicles theft-proof, and I'm sure that the more sophisticated the...
Soon after the initial deliveries, there'll be scores of car-mag cover-articles, YouTube clips, and owner reports on the CT. Those reports will determine whether it's Tesla's biggest flop or biggest bonanza.
I predict the latter. If so, there'll be few cancellations, because the early...
The longer the range, the higher the battery's cost and weight. A heavier battery might be helpful (for instance, in poor traction conditions) but the added inertia will interfere with stopping. So it's a tradeoff, meaning it might not serve you to get more range than you really need.
I'd like to try the yoke for a few blocks and then I'll have an answer for you.
I've never seen a land vehicle that has a yoke, or a plane that doesn't. But aircraft yokes don't rotate more than 45 degrees in each direction, whereas vehicle steering wheels (at least those I've encountered)...
Never driven a yoke vehicle but all the many aircraft I've flown are yoke-controlled. So I won't complain about my Cybertruck's (if I ever get it) yoke until I give it a fair trial.
My main concern about Tesla's displays and especially controls is that they're not intuitive. But using a yoke...
FROM THE GLOBE AND MAIL: "Shows are still an expensive place to be, too. The bigger the show, the bigger the costs. At Frankfurt, the huge halls devoted to showcase the home-town brands of Volkswagen and Daimler were estimated to cost those exhibitors upwards of $40-million each; at New York, a...
Makers have to pay big bucks to rent floor space at these shows. So it's a form of advertising, and Tesla doesn't advertise.
Which is one reason why my next vehicle will be a Tesla. If I bought anything else, I'd be paying back to the maker what it spent to get me to buy it.
What it costs to repair? As far as I know, insurance is required only for damage your vehicle causes to others. You don't have to insure it for collision damage, fire, theft, whatever.
