Generally you can still charge w/ SC's with a PCS failure so road trips are unaffected. What I would mainly worry about is having to pay full price for it failing just after warranty. If I were on an older model I'd especially want to drill the life down of the failing PCS before it expires.

Depending on when you got it you'd think you would want it to break before your warranty expires.
