Why not cut around the green/black wires to expose them more to strip them ? You can carefully cut a semi-circle around those wires and after you restore them with press connectors fill in the space with silicone.

On clear highway driving mine follows the blinker sequence; have noticed in moderate traffic sometimes it will not.

Did you open the B Pilar outer cover and attach connectors there for that purpose? Edit: I see if you followed the video you probably made that connection.
