These are dents in the tonneau cover from golf ball sized hail. The way the hail was dropping it hit the tonneau dead on at 90 degrees perpendicular to the surface. No other damage to the steel, glass or plastic.

I sliced a long pool noodle in half and set it in the gap. The noodle gets crushed when you close the bed and you get zero dirt in the bed that way. 30 miles driving on the beach over Memorial Day and no issues with it. The noodle has to be replaced after a few uses, but they are very cheap.
