Well, a $5k delta implies that Tesla should price the new AWD Standard at $74,990 -- which would be a $15,000 increase from the current price. I suspect a lot of people will be disappointed if that is the case.
Alternatively, let's say Tesla does price the AWD Standard at $64,990, like I...
In addition to the air suspension and the better stereo, the AWD Premium also has:
- premium interior
- heated rear seats, ventilated front seats
- second row display
- 120V cabin outlets
- 20" wheels
- premium bed and tail lamps
- gear locker under bed
- L-track cargo rails
- more towing...
The old RWD Cybertruck was priced at $69,990. The new AWD Standard has more features than the old RWD trim, so in theory, the AWD Standard should cost more than $69,990.
On the other hand, pretty much everyone would agree that the old RWD trim was overpriced. I don't think an AWD Standard in...
The price and features of the new AWD trim are clearly right for customers. The question now is whether the price and features are right for Tesla.
On February 20, Elon announced that the current deal would be available "only for the next 10 days", so Tesla apparently plans to change something...
Two developments of note in recent quarters.
First, Tesla cut back on production of the expensive models (Model S, Model X, Cybertruck) last year, to bring production into alignment with the relatively low demand. In Q4 2025, they only produced 11,406 of the expensive "Other Models", which was...
There's at least one other thing: the new AWD has bed outlets, which the RWD lacks.
Everyone is compiling the differences between the new AWD and the old AWD. But it seems like a much shorter list of differences if you compare the new AWD and the RWD.
Either that -- or else the trim is discontinued. Maybe it was a limited run to use up extra parts that were originally ordered for RWD production (like cloth seats and coil springs). Like a clearance sale.
We'll find out soon enough.
Something is happening within 10 days. Don't know what exactly, but it's probably not going to be a price drop. If the price goes down, then wouldn't everyone just cancel their reservation, forfeit their $250 deposit, and place another order at the lower price?
Lots of people will tell you that they've been jerked around by traditional car dealerships. And I don't dispute that this happens. Unfortunately it seems like the direct-to-consumer model can be abused as well.
If you get the OEM L-track, then obviously your next move should be the famous OEM L-track bottle opener. It was standard equipment on the Foundation Series, but it is compatible with all Cybertruck trims, so it's technically possible to add the exact same functionality to non-FS trucks. No idea...
Tesla offers OEM L-track for $250, so you don't have to go the aftermarket route. And then you can get all the other OEM L-track accessories too.
The Tesla L-track is marketed as an accessory for RWD Cybertrucks. I'm assuming that it would also fit on the new AWD trim, and that they just...
Us: OK, the new trim is decontented, but it's still a way better deal than the old RWD! Unlike the RWD, it has dual motors and AWD and a motorized tonneau cover -- yet it costs $10,000 less! It's almost too good to be true!
Elon: Only for the next ten days.
Us: Uh-oh. It was too good to be...
Nope, no L-Tracks. However, Tesla still offers the L-Tracks as an optional $250 accessory for the discontinued RWD Long Range trim. Seems likely that the accessory L-tracks could be installed on the new AWD trim as well (although I would confirm that with Tesla before dropping $250).
And if you...
For the Model Y, the roof difference is explicitly spelled out in the trim comparison table:
But there is no indication of any roof differences in the Cybertruck trim comparison table -- or anywhere else that I've seen. I think they all have the glass roof -- even the discontinued RWD.
Should be interesting to see the effect of the new trim on the used Cybertruck market.
I just searched cars.com for used CTs nationwide, and got 188 hits. The least expensive option was priced at $69,777 (not including one that had been in an accident). Used AWDs are typically $70,000+.
Is...
It does look that way. You can now pay:
$54,990 for a Model 3 Performance AWD, or
$57,490 for a Model Y Performance AWD, or
$59,990 for a Cybertruck Dual-Motor AWD
To make it even more confusing, Tesla removed the Luxe Package from the Cyberbeast, but kept the Luxe Package for the Model S and the Model X. The top trims on the S ($109,490) and the X ($114,490) are now significantly more expensive than the Cyberbeast ($99,990).
As of February 14, the Luxe...
