No mention of any PGE issues at all. Iām a legacy EVA rate home, so we get really aggressive off peak charges.
Yes I have a nice 11kw solar array. Hopefully when the gateway software supports it Iāll connect it up to the gateway. For now they are under explicit instructions to not connect...
For now it does nothing. But in March they will enable the backup function. There is no timeline on supporting solar with the CT yet. But my sense from Tesla is that it is in the software roadmap.
I also hope they unlock time shifting. But they may not out of concern for adding too many...
The initial quote was at least $1K more than others in the bay area. Mainly because they thought the install was more complex. But when they arrived they decided to mount the gateway on the interior wall opposite the main breaker box which greatly simplified it. Hopefully I will get a revised...
My v3 gateway and universal wall connector were installed today. Went very fast and was a very clean install. I was really impressed by the team that showed up. And Iām an EE that is hard to impress. Haha.
The new v3 Gateway design is impressive. Looks similar to v2 but a lot of visible...
Picked up CT on 1/22 and noticed an orangish tint and spots I couldnāt remove on the hood. I hit it with a pass of Bar keepers Friend and Windex and it completely cleaned up the surface.
First pic is a closeup, second is halfway done. Third is the completed hood.
So far after cleaning it...
My installation is happening Monday. Will report back on how it works out with pictures.
My install is a little on the harder side, and will be $5500, not including permit costs. My area tends to charge more than others as well.
Note that you need a strong WiFi at the install site...
Received my quote and my full powershare install including Gateway v3 and the universal wall connector goes in on Monday. Some notes:
1) My install requires some extra labor because of the pre-existing 400A panel, and wiring in the wall connector on the front of the house, and wiring it back...
I took delivery 1/22 at Sunnyvale. My Truck is perfectly assembled. They spent 2 days inspecting it prior to delivery. And there was no fog machine or music. Just a here's your truck, bye. The way I like it.
Even in silicon valley, it's a pain having the truck this early. I parked in...
Sounds correct as powerwall 3 has a lot more integration. But I hear it doesnāt work with third party solar.
But I guess if you have a gateway 2 with uni wall connector it still works as the car acts like an expansion. But probably will not work in its own unless you have a gateway 3...
I read through the Gateway v2 manual to better understand what to expect.
You need a gateway to disconnect from the grid and power the house. Otherwise your Truck is driving power back on to the grid. Same goes for powerwall. Gateway manages these connections automatically.
Gateway v3...
The commute is in between Los Gatos and 237/Great Am Pkwy. No significant grades. Normal small hills in neighborhoods. Normal graded on-ramps and off-ramps.
Nothing, but you wonāt get the automated failover support. As well as whatever features they implement with the bidirectional system.
I have heard the car wonāt charge while the outlets are enabled. So when you manually activate the outlet, the house will run the battery down to 20%...
Gateway v3 has a mini sub panel in it. All the backup loads you want connect there.
For my case I have 400A service, thatās split into 2 200A breakers. I will be backing up one of the 200A breakers plus moving a few loads from the other 200A bus to the gateway. Mainly AC and upstairs...
I wanted a truck with PowerShare for home backup. Tesla made one.
But now it feels like Iām running down the street naked and everyone is staring at me. ?
