Yes it was my quote.
Just wondering what originally determined size, if the CT was designed from “first principles.”
It seems one of those principles was competing with the F-150 (matching the length of a Supercrew with 5.5’ bed while squeezing in the larger 6.5’ bed option). Apparently...
My friend has a Model S and he says he loses 20-30% when it is below freezing. And that is after leaving it plugged in outside his house.

Notice that (on the Bolt at least) the battery warmer runs...
Yes, the fact that the CT is electric makes it more complicated than ICE trucks which are “meant to be kept outside.”
Tesla says their chargers can be used outdoors but finding a location and getting 220v there can be complicated.
There’s also the question of temperature regulation for the...
This might be a deal-breaker for me. I have about a 6’ driveway between my garage and the street so that isn’t an option for me. I do have other outdoor parking (where my Ranger sits) but that is far enough from the house that I couldn’t feasibly set up a charging station there.
I’m going to...
Market isn’t completely untapped since Amazon already ordered 100,000 of these from Rivian.
As a camper van enthusiast I’m not excited about those small wheels but I’d love to see a van with the off-road abilities of the R1T or Cybertruck. That would be my dream vehicle...
I’m 6’5 also and I haven’t yet found a car that I couldn’t fit behind the wheel. Used to own a Honda Fit for a while.
I’m hoping they keep the 6.5’ bed so we could even sleep back there. Even if not, diagonal is always an option...
You are right about standard size, but somebody else brought up in another thread that 240” is outside dimension, and many are closer to 230” because of wall thickness. Hence the need for a slight shrinkage...
I’m one of the people with a garage that is exactly 232” so a 7” shrinkage means the difference between parking inside, or knocking out a wall to expand the garage, or parking outside.
My little Ranger lives outside, but things get a lot more complicated when I’m trying to install a charger...
Most of the Jalopnik staff has been cautious to endorse Tesla and especially critical of the outlandish stuff Elon says. Justin writes a lot about trucks and car design so you can see why he’d be especially slow to appreciate the CT. Honestly that article doesn’t seem very biased - he’s just...
Or if storage is an issue you could at least have another track with the option to roll the single cover fore or aft. This would be useful when camping (when the solar would be most useful) since most campers will require that the vault cover be retracted.
I agree, he talks more like a Musk parrot than a market analyst. I can easily imagine the words “different technology orbit” coming directly from Elon. Maybe he was really impressed by the exoskeleton tech? I’m hoping it means the CT will be using next gen batteries, or some other revelation we...
Sounds like the CT will provide security peace of mind for you and your gear. That can be worth a lot if you are in a dangerous area.
However I don’t know that this is gonna save you any money, at least as a means to the end goal of building a tiny house. $5-10K will get you a decent used...
I’m hoping the CT has some way to vector torque at each axle. Something like the e-twinster system from GKN that has two independent clutch packs per axle. If it had that front and rear, they could implement the “two powered wheel” tank turn that you describe on either the dual or tri-motor.
Laser wiper sounds cool but I wonder if it’s ready for prime-time. They also patented an electromagnetic single wiper to slide back and forth:

...and also be better off-road. Of course wheelbase has trade-offs but I’m not too worried about it. Currently it is 5in longer than the comparable F150 so it could afford to lose a little.
Wow, this is getting silly.
There aren’t any EV midsize SUVs or trucks that can tow and off-road. Closest is the Rivian that costs $30K more.
“They are not going to buy it anyways.” How do you know that? Maybe it’s the people who don’t want any dimensions changed who won’t buy it.
If Elon...
Ok but does it need to be plugged in constantly to use this thermoregulation system?
Do you garage yours or park outdoors overnight?
I’m trying to gauge downsides of parking outdoors vs garage.
With this recent discussion of size change for garage vs outdoor parking I wanted to get some more info re: cold batteries.
I have heard that EVs suffer range loss in the cold but want to know how it works. Does it prevent it from fully charging or will it shrink the capacity of an already...
