You can’t simply drill holes because most crossbars (including OEM) require installation of a mount inside the cavity created by the little appliqué door, with part of the crossbar end device going into the hole, so it isn’t simply a matter of accessing the studs welded inside the hole - the entire rectangular hole is necessary to complete the installation.
by drill holes i mean, modify as needed. Worry about replacement later. Use a Dremel and a cut-off disk, most likely.

They are not water tight by any means, cutting holes for crossbars will have little effect on this. If you want a rack or crossbars, its easy to cut vs spending $600 on more parts.

Your facts are a little off, sorry to say, and please don't be offended we all have our own opinions and then there are facts.

The OEM bars are good for carrying skis and luggage box. It's a truck, throw those in the bed. Our Heavy-Duty crossbars, and Mars, are both much stronger than OEM bars and can support rooftop tents and spare tires. No chance OEM will ever do either of those.

And anybody who took 8hrs to mount crossbars needs to never work on their truck again, they don't take more than 15min to put each bar on with 2 tools and 2min to take off with 1 tool.
I think your facts are also off. No matter what your crossbars are rated for, the mounting points and roof location is rated for 220 pounds total by Tesla for two bars (440 total with four bars). If you’re putting more than that up there you are exceeding OEM specs - and would have liability akin to mis-loading or pulling a trailer that’s above specs. Doing so also violates the Tesla warranty. I confirmed this with Tesla before sending back the klugey after-market bars and purchasing OEM bars.

Your heavy-duty bars are rated on your website at 110 pounds dynamic load per par, so identical to the Tesla OEM bars. Your standard duty bars are rated on your website at 100 lbs per bar, so less than OEM. I would have no problem using the OEM bars for a spare or anything an aftermarket bar would hold. I use mine for a Yakima roof pod, Yakima bike carriers, and Yakima Kayak cradles.

Your three-post Heavy duty work rack claims “440 pounds max payload per Tesla” but it’s not clear how you get there because Tesla only rates each connection point at 110 pounds per cross bar, and you are using three attachment points per side, so it seems the limit would be 330 pounds?

I’ve posted in another thread pictures of the OEM cross bars vs several aftermarket bars. Virtually all aftermarket bars look like amateur high school shop class projects IMO. They stick up vertically (90 degrees to ground) compared with the OEMs being angled flush with the truck’s sides, and have visible bolts and construction that isn’t compatible with the truck’s integrated ethos in my view.

None of the aftermarket bars or rack systems are easy-on easy-off in seconds. I agree with your conclusion on the guy who claimed it takes eight hours, but he swears by it, explained why. I could see a couple hours because you have to be super-careful not to scratch anything and it’s definitely a two-person job. But using your own estimates, it’s still an hour’s work - 16 bolt studs is a bunch to line up and torque properly. There’s no question that the OEM bars both maximize allowable weight on the roof AND are the easiest on/off solution by a wide margin. Maybe if you never intend to take them off, it could make sense to go aftermarket. But then you’re still stuck with the home-made look.
