It looks really nice! Is that really going to be 45k though? Seems like it will be more.
Yes and no. Rivian is still advertising the $45K price, but that would apply to the single-motor RWD version. Rivian won't be producing that version initially; they are going to start with the dual-motor AWD version, and that's what the reviewers are testing.

The dual-motor version will definitely cost more than $45K. And on top of that, the initial dual-motor R2s will get some sort of additional "Launch Edition" markup (like the Model Y "Launch Series" or the Cybertruck "Foundation Series").

There will also be an even more expensive tri-motor version at some point. We are supposed to get full pricing info for all versions on March 12.

I think the Rivian R2 will be a solid competitor to many vehicles in the class.

However, I would still stick with Tesla because I am spoiled by the FSD. :giggle:

Think Subaru Outback, only with 656 hp and 609 lb-ft of torque.
To put those numbers in perspective, the dual-motor R2 is slightly smaller (in length and width) than a Model Y, yet it has more hp than a dual-motor AWD Cybertruck.

Rivian claims 0-60 in 3.6 seconds for the dual-motor R2, compared to Tesla's claims of 4.1 seconds for the dual-motor CT and 3.3 seconds for a Model Y Performance.

Rivian has not released specs for the tri-motor R2, but they do indicate 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Will likely be competitive with the tri-motor Cyberbeast (2.7 seconds) and Model 3 Performance (2.9 seconds).

Why not both?
Probably will affect both to some extent -- but the extent will depend on pricing, which is not known at this point. Supposed to be announced on March 12.

Less expensive = more competition with Model Y.
More expensive = more cannibalization of R1S.

My guess is that the R2 will become the default choice for anyone who wants to take an electric SUV off-road
My bet is on Scout to take that place as long as they come to market soon.
The Scout website still says initial production in 2027, but German news is now reporting that Scout production has been pushed back until "at least 2028".
