Tint in NY state is limited to 30% for cars

Tint is limited to 30% (70% VLT) for front windshield and front side windows in NY state. (Sedans 70% also for rear side. No limit for rear if two outside mirrors.) Enforcement varies locally.

The percentage refers to the Visible light passing through. Lower percentage darker the tint.

Yes, you can get UV blocking tints without them being dark.
