I lost my right rear Aero wheel cover today. As luck would have it, it shows up on the right side camera. We reviewed the footage and were able to see when it flew off. It came off while departing a shopping center parking lot. We went back to look for it, and some Good Samaritan picked it up from the street and set it on a large rock nearby. When I went to put it back on. I noticed that the center section was not securing into the fully installed position. It took a good firm kick to get it secured. I walked around the truck and checked all the others, One more was loose in the center. I recommend that everyone check their covers. I suspect that the make-ready team didn’t properly secure them all.

Yes, part of the install process is too install the insert then place the cover on top and align. Once aligned, you basically have to use your palm or hammer fist to smack all spokes and lastly the center to secure each cover in place. I just got mine installed and though they looked good, I took the time to confirm all parts were snapped in place.

So sorry to hear that one of your aero wheel cover flew off. I just received mine today and the Tesla team was kind enough to immediately installed them for me. Yes, these covers are another engineering marvel from Tesla. Its intricate design complexity is overshadowed by its difficult initial installation where first, you must align the outer clips to the narrow spoke openings, follow by a good wack on all seven spokes on the aero wheel covers. Then, you have to dial in the alignment of the tire design with that of the cover spokes by manhandling the outer edge( trust me, it's a workout ?) of the cover and turn them carefully until the spokes alignment with the AT tires' seven spokes grooves. Once that's accomplished, now you can finalize the lock-in process by wacking hard the center portion of each aero-covers so that the hub clips are now engaged ( these aero covers are double lock-in when properly installed) . I suspect many installers had forgotten about that final wack to the center hubcap location

yeah, I would be fine with these covers except for one thing... You have to remove them to add/remove air from the tires! Makes it a 'not so easy' job if you are going to keep them properly inflated... Sure wish there was a 'hole' for the air...

I wasn’t as lucky, couldn’t find on camera when nor where it came off. I had to order a new one today. It was installed at SC but i guess i need to check them regularly to make sure they’re secure . I was not involved in any rough driving when it was lost and nothing on cameras showing anyone removing it.

Get yourself a rubber mallet to use to re-seat them rather than a kick or possibly painful hand smack...

If you scuff a curb, as I did, the wheel covers will break at a small plastic piece and become unusable. Any rock could do this off-road as well.
