Absolutely not my position. I fully trust Tesla Service would install the new parts properly, I just see it as unnecessary. If any part of them started to lift, I would take it in immediately without delay.

I don't expect that to happen but, of course, it could. Very low probability.
I know its service center specific, yours might be a good one. I think the overwhelming majority on here were not happy with their results.

You have got to be joking - why is this so hard for the tech to get right then? That tech in the video is a real rockstar or we are dealing with some lazy techs at the SC.
It's really a simple install. I'm gonna go with option B.

I don't believe you, Tesla Service has done many thousands of these and you only hear about the people who were not 100% satisfied for any reason.

So what are the little stick-on foil bits for? The ones he uses a roller for over the screw holes .

Have you tried to hire anyone with mechanical skills lately? It seems most of the people in the age range for this job spent their youth playing video games, and doing computer stuff, rather than disassembling and re-assembling everything they could get their hands on (as was my case)!

Mine are just fine - and I have my cyberbeast wrapped - so I would have to take it back to the shop and pay to have these pieces wrapped again. I wonder if one had paid for the Tesla wrap option if Tesla would pay for wrapping these pieces - ??? They should - maybe this would be a good reason to get any wrap done by Tesla…

They should give you a $300 credit because they are wrapped

I held off as long as I could but one service rep made it a mandatory item so I had to. When they replaced it, wow. Was terrible. Misaligned. Wavy. Spot welds from the nut on the front. Not good at all. If you can hold off do yourself a favor and opt out of it until they fall off.

If you take the truck into Tesla and the service dept says it is an optional repair - given their inspection of the central’s/ then I would think your liability would have been eliminated. As long as you get paperwork showing you brought the truck in on the recall.

I would actually think Tesla would just replace these parts on any truck brought in just to remove their own liability.

The big question is how many trucks have had these parts fly off the truck while on the road? Likely very very few— but maybe there was one incident that caused some damage to other vehicles ???

I also was hesitant since mine were still firmly in place after 16 months of ownership. But since it was recalled for safety on my May 2024 build I went ahead and did it last week because I felt I would have possibly additional significant liability and responsibility for causing an accident or injury if they came off while driving if I ignored the recall. I spoke to the service center about my concern for a good job and making sure they were well aligned. I am very glad I did it. They did a fantastic job on installing the new ones. Good alignment and no noticeable stud bump or discoloration where it is attached. Absolutely no noticeable difference from the original ones. Now I don't need to worry about it anymore.
Did they replace them or put the same ones on again?

Well…liability or not, in real world terms having one of these service techs go through your car is not a measure of safety at all.
When they reinstalled my sail panels, they broke several of the clips and dropped/did not replace several of the white clips. They must have felt they were a bit loose because the solution I now know they came up with was applying roughly two inches of shitty double sided tape to areas where there previously was not tape.
This resulted in both my sail panels nearly flying off on the freeway. I’m including a little video clip so you can see one example of where my complete lack of faith in these folks as safety professionals comes from. Whether @dalton108 is right or not on the liability issue which I think he probably is,
Having one of these dudes tell everything is “fine” with you cantrails doesn’t guarantee you jack shit.

I mean, ok.... This forum is littered with complaints about tons of service mishaps, but this must be the exception.

A recall is a legal declaration by the company that they have something that’s unsafe. No front level employee or manager can change that. You will never become not liable because you relied on bad advice contrary to the controlling state affairs which is the cantrails are known to be prone to detaching and the company has an engineering fix requiring you to bring your vehicle in to have the service done.

You’ll both be potentially liable, not just them. The bell cannot be un-rung. You are culpable for not making sure the repair gets done or taking your vehicle out of service.

Recalls never really apply to 100% of the affected vehicles the decision being made is that it is unsafe to a high enough statistical degree that they all need to be treated as defective.

That is all. None of this is particularly complicated. Take whatever risks you are comfortable with.
