Got an alert that a tire was low, looked over it, found a screw (great).

BUT it was pretty much dead center of the tire, contemplated putting a plug in it myself but for $30 decided to take it to Tire Kingdom as they do Tesla/Rivian tires daily. Know how to properly lift an EV, foam lined tires etc.

Got a call 3 hours later that they tried two patches, and both failed. Suggested a new $555 tire, although suggested I buy it from Tire Rack as they did not stock it, so no real financial motivation on their end?

Anyway, anyone had an issue getting a tire patched? Service guy says he buffed inside down to clean rubber, did all usual steps, has been plugging tires for 15 years but this "is an odd tire and no idea why it is still leaking, maybe the patch nipple will fatten up and stop the leak"

Just a data point for other owners out there.
ONE new Core wheel from Tesla is over $600
Dodge those nails in the road and watch FSD closely for curbs

Had a nail in our Cybertruck back in April. No service centers close, so took to Les Schwab to see about getting the tire plugged. They took off tire with hand jacks (no lift for weight), plugged the hole and put tire back on. Mechanic came in and said don’t worry about a charge for the fix, rather look to them for new tires when the time comes. I said “Thank You” and thought what a nice gesture.

However, the TPMS sensor never went away on the screen, even though it says they will reset with next drive. Took it to Tesla SC in June and found out the TPMS was broken and had to be replaced. Luckily, they replaced under warranty as they run about $150 for install.

Now I know why the charge at Les Schwab was free, probably because they broke the TPMS while plugging tire. Not going back to Les Schwab for tires.

Did Tesla OK you to drive on the tire once plugged/patched?
A day later soapy water is still bubbling on the tire patch/plug so it has a slow leak.
I have heard that Tesla won't patch a tire and wants to always replace for liability reasons.

Maybe try a plug instead of patch.

Their glue could have been bad/contaminated.

I got a nail in one of my tires (all terrain) and had it patched by discount tire. Luckily, they convinced me to buy the certificates. Because the patch failed and they ended up having to replace the tire as well. So your experience seems to be par for the course.

Did not talk to Tesla as we are over 2 hours from an SC. Just decided to take to a local tire to see if they could go something. They made it sound like just another tire repair, and it worked. The plug held and still is in even after Tesla did a tire rotation.

In the future, I will contact them for mobile service with tire issues.

Supposedly with EV tires (lots of torque) patches with a plug component are the way to go, unfortunately didn't work and had to cough up $600 for a new tire.

Final cost was $612 for a new tire, after having a screw dead center in the tread on a newish tire with less than 2k miles on it that stung.
Most concerning was the lack of availability of the standard cybertruck (core) tire from any shop other than Tesla.
