So why are you picking up from a Tesla Service Center instead of homs delivery to optimize the fees you've paid?

I maybe abroad on my delivery schedule. I can make all the financial arrangements online. In which case, I will opt for home delivery.

But yeah, parading it out from the center to your home for the gawk value can be part of the perks of owning one.

It could be different now but when I had my model 3 home delivered 4 years ago I had to physically be there to sign off on the delivery. So this time I plan on picking up my cybertruck since either way I have to be there and when you pick it up it sort of becomes an experience vs just some dude dropping off the car.

Tesla only picks home deliver when they want to, which is why the option is listed.

And yea, in the past, being overseas has been an issue and cars have been lost because of it.

And yes, you have to be somewhere in person to sign.

The destination fee is is standard, it's the cost to get the vehicle from the factory to a delivery center. Home delivery is an added cost typically from what i've seen, although i think exceptions have been made.

Also FWIW, this fee exists if you buy a GM or Ford from a dealer, it's just hidden.

I don't believe that you had a choice. I believe that they assigned a location and indicated that home delivery may be available.

Destination charges are even across the country. Not 100% sure if Alaska and Hawaii are included..

So even if you live in Austin, you're paying the same Destination charge as someone 2000 miles away. This keeps people from shopping just in Austin and not in their local city. But also keep in mind that sales tax is based on the county you live in, not the county you purchase it from. Once again to prevent people from buying in states that are sales tax free.

Remember when you could buy items online and skip the sales tax. Out here in California, that's been history for years.

FYI, home delivery, at least for my second S, was not on a flatbed, someone drove it and followed by another employee in a 3. If you are anal and don't want that, go to the center. I picked up my first S, second was delivered because my schedule allowed a home delivery to get it faster. The autopilot was fully calibrated in the 20 miles to get it here. There were also a few things I needed adjusted that I would have rather had done on the spot at an SC.
