This type of false rhetoric is sponsored by big oil. "EV fires" and "EV causing road damage" and "EV battery replacement costs $25000" etc are all lies.
The last one is true-ish. It's about 20k to replace an EV battery from Tesla.

In 2012 Elon said in the future it would be cheap to do, but prices haven't gone down at all.

There's a difference between campaign promises and indirectly referencing and idea.

Trump said he would end Biden's EV mandate and then referenced the Inflation Reduction Act....now they are doing that. It was a campaign promise and they are following through.

"We will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American auto workers,"

Killing the EV rebate was never a campaign promise. Getting rid of the EV MANDATE was. Forcing domestic auto makers to manufacture EVs was never a good idea.
Please get your facts straight.
There was no such thing as an EV mandate. That is a politically made up term.
By not pushing US industry into the new age, this administration has effectively killed the future auto industry. The vast majority of vehicles in the US will be made with Chinese tech and Chinese materials. He's a real stable genius.

looks like they're moving forward with the campaign promise of killing the tax credit soon. Adding insult to injury, they want a one-time 1k at point of purchase . If you're thinking about committing to the CyberTruck, better start planning your move. Not sure how demand and wait time will be now.

"U.S. Senate Republicans on Wednesday proposed a pair of bills to kill the country's $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit and impose a new $1,000 tax on EVs to pay for road repairs."

"credits would end 30 days after the bill was signed into law."

People driving their inefficient cars with internal combustion engines (22% efficient) should pay a penalty for dumping toxic gases and CO2 into the atmosphere.

I’m afraid with tax reforms, something had to give. I just hope that I can order the Model 2 before the credits disappear.

$1000 is like the US gas tax on 5,435 gallons of fuel.

Which is like driving my Mazda 168,000 miles, a Maverick 200,000 miles, or a Ford F150 125,000 miles.

I don't think this would pass.
