I have been intermittently having an issue where I approach my locked CB, only to find that I cannot make the rear tailgate/ton control buttons actually do anything. Other times they seem to work fine. I have been leaving the truck outside and assumed this might be rain getting in from bad storms we have had recently. Maybe it is shorting out?

The other day my wife was driving. I was in the passenger seat. We had two other people in the back. I normally keep the seats folded up and the controls locked because the back is occupied by dogs more often than people. When we arrived home, the people in the back could not get out because the child locks were still turned on. I hopped out and tried to push the door open buttons from the outside. They did not work. My wife tried, and then they opened.

I now think this is all related and may not even be a bug, but a feature? Really hoping that someone can tell me this is user error :)

We both use our phones as keys (android). Additional testing seems to show the following:

If I drive/lock the truck, my wife can later approach and everything works. The rear exterior control buttons, the rear cab door open buttons, etc...

If my wife drives/locks the truck, I can later approach and find that the only exterior button that will actually respond is the driver side door open button. Once I press this, I can use all of the other buttons.

Also, when I approach, and try to use the non-working buttons, I do see a message on the screen telling me to use a key-card.

In summary, it would seem that:
-If I lock the CB, my wife can still approach the CB and interact/open any of the locked exterior controls.
-If my wife locks the CB, I cannot interact/open any of the locked exterior controls. I see a message telling me to use a key-card when I try. If I open the driver door it will actually open, at which point all other controls start working for me again.

A good test would be to switch phones before approaching the vehicle. Maybe your CT knows it’s your wife and is more compliant towards her because it wants to stay out of trouble. ?

After it doesn't work, can you immediately open the back door. And if successful, can you then immediately try the buttons?

The area around the rear of the truck, especially behind the truck are bad signal areas. There happens to be a lot of metal shielding you from the receivers at the front door.

As far as the door locks, did you try to press hard?

On the security line on the phone app, it should tell you if your phone is currently connected as a key.

Do you have unlock driver door only mode on? Meaning that only the driver door will unlock when you approach the vehicle from the driver side. This caused weird issues for me, so I turned it off.

Your wife's profile is set to only allow driver's door unlock when the vehicle is locked.
So when you use the truck after she does, the other doors and such don't unlock until you use the driver's door and it switches to your profile.

I assume you are not changing the settings but try under settings/locks turn off 'Drive Door Unlock Mode' otherwise you'll have to hold down the driver door unlock button three seconds to unlock all other door locks including the vault controls. It's a safety thing.

So basically it's working fine for your wife but not for you? If so I would guess it's a phone or settings issue on your side.

Yep. Your profiles are set differently. Driver Door Unlock only seems to be set in her profile. She can unlock all doors by holding door open button once inside

Looks like it was indeed Driver Door Unlock. Thank you!
The individual profiles can lead other weird things like home charging being recorded as "other" due to not setting the home address (or not assigning a key card to a profile).

Could the difference being the CT can use UWB bluetooth? If your wife's phone is capable (Pixel 8 and 9, for example) and enabled, the CT would know WHERE she is standing so it allows access. Regular blue tooth isn't as location aware.

Could be as simple as you needing to remove and re-add your phone with UWB enabled.

I believe that the UWB is only used for the new trunk/frunk opening on Teslas.
