I've read a bunch of posts and seen videos on both sides of this argument, but can people who use an automatic car wash give me some peace that I'm not going to trash my truck by using one? I'm grandfathered into a sick price for unlimited washes, used to take my old vehicle through once a week. Washing it myself isn't that big a deal, but the automatic is much easier. Having someone come "detail" the car is just stupid expensive for what they do.

So real life experience: Who takes theirs through on the regular? Any issues?

I wouldn't worry about what'll happen to the stainless steel but:
  • Automatic car washes use harsher chemicals that could degrade your seals/rubber trim/plastic
  • You'll get swirl marks on any painted trim/plastic
  • If its not a touchless car wash it could damage stuff like fender flares and mirrors if you're not positioned right
  • Some have moving tracks that could damage your wheels/tires

Some people have had great experiences, others have had terrible ones. I used to detail cars so I just stick to hand washing

I’ve been taking mine to the automatic wash since I have taken delivery in May, no issues other than taking out a few strands of the rolling brushes due to the sharp edges.

Until recently, the roller brushes finally took out the charge port door. I always have the Truck in car wash mode to prevent the charge port door from opening, but I guess the brushes were strong enough to pull it back manually.

Now I have to wait a month out to get the charge port door parts from the service center. Not a big deal, but I have to tape shit the door to prevent flapping during drives or future car washes.

Not sure you read my posts, here they are:

7 minutes No tracks, No rails, No brushes, No Neutral, No car wash mode, touchless, pressured wash. Just drive in the tunnel and stop like you stop at a red right.

Unlimited wash once a day for $29.99/mo.

I’ve taken mine through my local auto wash many times without issue. It’s pretty new though (built about a year ago) and has foam paddles instead of the older style bristles on the rollers that scrub the vehicle.

I run our CT through a regular Carwash 3X a week. It has our company swag on it too. Dry it each time with microfiber cloths to prevent spots. No problems at all. Looks awesome.

Washed my Cybertruck yesterday by hand. Just added another issue to my existing Tesla Service Ticket. The seals around the front windows leak and water gets on the inside.
When I was at the SC a CB owner was there because the seals around his bed were leaking as well.

My tonneau cover seems to do its job, didn’t see any issues there but the windows are ridiculous!

Fwiw I’ve just been taking mine to the self wash bays. I don’t use the scrub brush I just rinse with high pressure soap and then high pressure rinse followed by a quick spot free rinse (not sure that does anything but I do it anyway). This cleans the car nicely… much nicer than a traditional painted car. I don’t see any dirt left over. It even gets finger prints off. Was very happy to find a lower maintenance solution after all the horror stories online that required you to use barkeepers friend or other chemicals to maintain the stainless steel.

Was it in car wash mode when that happened?

Take mine through a recently built car wash weekly since February. No issues. They're wide strips that get twirled around, not bristles though.

I just use the self wash nearby. The truck may be big but its VERY easy to clean. Makes washing the truck relaxing.
My washing steps I use
-Pre-soak(sometimes I don't pre-soak and just use rinse to get it wet)
-Rinse
-Foaming brush
-Rinse
-Dry with towels and throw them in the bed of the truck.

I'm in an out in 5mins if I focus, but most the time I just relax and chill while moving the foaming brush around. Also the soap smells fruity here.

edit-Wish they would add an outdoor speaker to listen to tunes while washing.

Someone mentioned a squeegee for drying and it indeed works well.

Maybe you need to head to the Toybox and see what this thing called boombox is!

Tonight before I drive home from work I will check out boombox. I haven't played much in the toybox other than fart noises to make the kids laugh.
