In this image, there ARE lines on the tire following the hubcaps. Are those drawn in by someone tracing it in pencil, or are those molded into the rubber? This photo almost looks like the hubcaps aligned that way on purpose.

Are you describing the area of the tire shown in the center of this piece of the photo below?

Look at the M in "MADE". The lower left corner of the M is cut off. I think the hubcap was rotated slightly clockwise from its correct alignment with the tire, then the tire's flexing motion, the deformation the sidewall when that spot of the tire was on the bottom, caused the tire's sidewall to press against the hubcap and gradually wear away the hubcap-shaped area.

Or maybe someone did a VERY elaborate and realistic photoshop job on the image to keep us amused while we await the release announcement....

Looking at this image, you can see aerocap wasn't aligned properly to the tire mold openings.

I'm gonna guess this tire is a bad molded tire.

Meaning the tire has notches to align with the rim (on the insde) so the cap can then align.

That they're testing the fitment of the hubcaps means that you're not going to use them?

I'm like you, I reserved the night of the reveal. The hubcaps have ALWAYS been the one thing about the Cybertruck I don't like.
I have always thought it's ridiculous to have rims or anything stick out beyond the sidewall of tires. Even more so on an off-road vehicle! When I saw the prototype at the Petersen museum, I was blown away at how far beyond the tire sidewall, and into the air stream they stick out. I've never seen any vehicle that had rims/hubcaps that stick out even close to these extremes. It makes absolutely no sense to design hubcaps like that. And it goes against one of the main selling points for me. That is that the Cybertruck design is based on making a functional truck without adding window dressing that has no function. That's all those hubaps are! Additional crap to make the Cybertruck look badass. But it might as well be a huge hood ornament that serves no purpose in my eyes. The video seeing it fly through the air like a ninja star and these photos showing the hubcap damaging the tires, just confirms how superfluous they are.

I get you guys don't like the looks of them. However, if they can help make the CT more aero and extend the range, would you still not use them?

Kinda strange for Tesla to say they're for aero when they stick out a couple of inches beyond the tirewall with a gap. Even if they saved a few miles of range. I would take them off because they're gonna get destroyed. All it takes is a curb at a drive thru fast food place.
