My iPhone 16 pro max gets pretty hot when charging on the wireless charging pad. I am wondering where the coil lines up to the MagSafe spot? It’s probably just a little off which causes the excess heat.

Yep, no issues on Pixel 6 and 8 with magsafe case.

Pretty sure it’s mainly isolated to newer iPhones 14,15,16
Changes in cameras and wireless charging implementations that mainly works well on MagSafe chargers, but terrible on qi chargers.
The camera bump out prevents flush contact with the the charging surface.
Not an issue with MagSafe…
