Hi , wanted to travel to my 100+ acre cabin this hunting season with the Cybertruck so I set up rack storage to help with situations traveling several hours to a remote location . I don't want to attempt to fix a tire in the middle of the night in a remote location.

Heavy Duty crossbars and molles were purchased with @CYBERTRUCKco . Pretty easy setup just needed some help with the tire rack as I wanted to mount on the lower racks for less wind resistance. So Cybertruckco told me the adjustments I needed to make .

Love the way it looks and the space savings for travel gear.

looks FANTASTIC! My only advice (not that you asked for any) is to put a tire cover over the spare - I have a Sprinter with a spare tire mounted on an after-market rack on the rear door and after a few years the spare will show signs of dry-rot if constantly exposed to the sun. Might not be an issue for you (maybe you garage your CT) but just something I had to do. Again, looks awesome!
I had the same thought. Although i plan to rotate my tires including the spare, I am looking for a lightweight hardshell cover for a 35” tire for the spare while it is mounted on the roof rack. I haven’t had much luck. If anyone knows where to get one that is universal and can point me to a link that would be awesome. I keep finding links to Jeep and Land Rover hard covers but nothing universal for a roof rack on the CT/CB, for which I just seem to find a million vinyl pullover sock type covers.

Has anyone had better luck than me trying to find the same thing?

Cheers

Seems to me that the straps on the spare on reversed. Shouldn't the wishbone be at the rear with the single strap at the front? I'm sure it's tight enough and safe but my brain just sees it as backwards for turns, fast accelerations, etc. LOL. I'm an idiot though. That aside, this all looks brilliant, jealous of your wheel covers. What VIN are you? No need to be specific but I am 6700ish and haven't gotten mine yet and am going to kill myself soon.
Emergency braking or collision will push the tire forward. Also, isn't the latch on the back?

It’s Avery brand Brushed metallic black .
Basically very oem looking but with a black tint
This is one of the best wraps I’ve seen- I love it. I checked out the Avery specs, however, and they specifically exclude installation onto (and clean removal from) stainless steel. Did your installer discuss that with you? Is there a workaround? Thanks!

I'm not following you here. If you don't want to fix a tire in the middle of the night in a remote location, then why would you bring a spare tire and equipment necessary to swap the flat for the spare?

It's far easier and quicker to plug a flat tire than it is to replace the whole wheel and tire assembly with a spare one. No jacking the vehicle up, no lug nuts, no wrestling with two wheels each weighing 100 lbs. In fact, you can easily do it on ground that is rugged and not level too.

Plus, a plug kit can fix many flats, a spare can only get you on your way if you only have one flat tire. Sometimes a road hazard will take out two tires at once. Even if you only get one flat, now you are out of spare tires until you go to a tire shop.

Is it because you are familiar with using a spare wheel assembly but have never plugged a tire? Not patched, plugged.

Interesting points. How difficult is it to plug a tire, and how do you learn?

It's kind of like "monkey see a leak, monkey plug the leak".

Ha-ha, just kidding. I just followed the instructions that came with the plug kit and used common sense. I got turned onto plugging by my motorcycle riding buddies in the 1980's. I saw a motorcyclist use 5 or six gummy worm style plugs to do an emergency repair on a sidewall gash. It got him back to civilization where he could replace the tire.

I've done a lot of sport-touring, my average ride each year was 5-6000 miles and much of it was on rural backroads in some of the most remote areas of the American West, far from help and often without cell service. Sport-touring motorcycle tires don't have as much puncture protection as car and truck tires, because with motorcycles it's especially important to have light and supple tires. I could buy tires that had more puncture resistance, but they didn't ride as nicely. I would average about one flat per year, and I fixed them all successfully and quickly. Sometimes the puncture was in an area of the tire that I wasn't comfortable with, and I would replace the tire at my convenience, other times the plug looked solid and I would ride the tire until it needed replacement.

On four wheeled vehicles I hardly ever get a flat tire, but I still carry a plug kit because it's so much more convenient than waiting for roadside assistance (or carrying an entire spare wheel assembly and jacking equipment). Keeping your tires well-aired up reduces punctures and eliminates blowouts (unless you are unlucky enough to get a defective tire). Always buy quality tires that are suitable for the vehicle and the use.

And a friendly reminder to add air to your tires as the weather cools. I see a lot more motorists with flat tires on the side of the road after the temperature drops suddenly. Add more pressure when carrying heavy loads, especially if you will be doing highway driving.
