I’m sold on the Cybertent and a DIY custom build pull-out kitchen, but fear the combination is not compatible in bear country.

Here are all the variables:
- My wife and I sleep in the Cybertent.
- 2 kids sleep in the rear of the cab (bunk bed style).
- Colorado and surrounding states require booking campsites sometime six months in advance. Self-leveling + truck tent is important for dispersed camping without a flat area for a ground tent.
- I want a truck bed pull-out style kitchen so meals are easy and on the go. (There’s not enough room in the frunk for dry food, a cooler, and kitchen appliances.)
- Ability to mount bikes on the Tesla roof rack above the glass roof for MTB trips. Trailer hitch racks don’t work with Gen 3 Superchargers since the truck has to be so close for the cable to reach.

The problem is the Cybertent requires the tailgate to be open, and the bed is the only area big enough for all the kitchen pullout and food supplies while the rear cab is occupied by the kids sleeping there. Using a rooftop tent like Urander means we can’t mount bikes on the roof.

That’s my dilemma. Are my bear concerns overblown? Any other solutions I should consider?

Should probably contact your local Forestry Department instead of the CT forum regarding the bear issue

What bunks do you use for the kids in the cab? Got any pictures by chance? Wanted to do disc-o-bed but they seem an inch or two too long. Currently hunting for the very same solution .
Point taken about the bears. I don’t have a lot of experience with them. Maybe the solution is to keep your kitchen gear in the bed but your “pantry“ in the frunk and fridge in the cabin?

For the bunk bed, I plan on building something similar to this: https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/bunk-bed-installed-in-my-cybertruck.20480/

We’re going to have two 38qt coolers, won’t be able to fit them in the cab and also don’t want to move them back and forth either. I can definitely put dry foods in the frunk. Kitchen appliances in the bed will still smell like food.

Once you get away from Boulder county foothills, bear sightings will drop off significantly...

Seriously, if concerned, get bear spray. I've had more moose in my campsite then bears (Winter Park: Moose, 2x, CO-statewide bears, zero) and they can be very dangerous.

If you are playing around in bear territory, then every member of your family needs to have bear mace, and a holster.

And more importantly a demonstration on how to actually use it, with the vitally important understanding of which way the wind is blowing.

This is my go-to:

That's a good idea. As least for my wife and I in the tent. The kids will be in the truck, so they will be safe, and also can't be trusted with bear spray, lol.

This electric grill and smoker by Ninja will cook some of the best meals you've had. Small footprint and easy to clean. Ideal for camping and day trips. I use it at home too since it is versatile. https://a.co/d/b0uApWh

My simple rule, ingrained in me as a kid by my father, is to never store, prepare or even eat food in or near your tent or sleeping area. The odors linger, whether any food remains or not. Not always a convenient rule to follow, but it's never failed me.

That's been our rule as well, but that's not really an option with a rooftop tent and pull out truck bed kitchen. I would imagine if this was a serious issue we'd hear more about it from truck bed pull out kitchen with RTT adventurers. I'm thinking we just bring bear spray and an air horn in case we hear any ruckus outside the tent. If we're in grizzly territory, we can just tent camp instead and keep everything locked up in the truck.

I think your choices are: hard/soft cooler designed to fit in the frunk, and do everything you're describing, without sacrificing much

pick and choose what you bring with you on what trips, substitute bike rack for rooftop basket rack like Yakima Load warrior or split the between a skinnier carrier and bikes,

store less frequently needed stuff in bins and put them under the tent
