If I put a deposit on a truck, the Cybertruck, can I deduct that deposit off my 2019 taxes? Production and delivery is years away, could I do this every year for several years. Example, I put a $ 1000. deposit in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022. Would Tesla allow that, could I lock in the price now with a deposit, and then add to that deposit year after year until delivery, and then owe the balance when I take delivery? What would be the limit as to how much each years deposit would be? Could I get a receipt for the deposit? Would I need a contract? I would appreciate an answer from Tesla on the expanding deposit idea, and any CPA reading this on the forum

Since the reservation deposit is not a contract for sale I don't think you can take a deduction. The Cybertruck is not yet for sale, reservations only.

Also, no expanding deposit.

OK, the vehicle must be put into service to claim any tax deduction.
