Dog Mode Safety Issue

Dog mode to keep the truck interior for my two dogs is a great feature but when one of them steps up onto the armrest the door unlocks and if they are pushing on the door when doing this the truck actually opens up! This freaked out my wife as someone could then take our dogs which are oten dogknapped (yep, a truck owner with French Bulldogs!). I know that the doors can open by pushing down on the door release and also by pulling up on another door release. Wouldn't it be possibly to have the software (when in dog mode only) not release the door by the push down button? It could still be opened by pulling up on the door handle so safety / emergency exit is still possible. Hopefully Tesla can consider having a software push to address this safety / security issue with Dog Mode. I'd rather NOT screw up the interior by installing some kinda cover panel that would do this at all times.

Tesla cannot add any features to the vehicle that prevent or hinder egress; it's a safety issue. You will need to come up with a solution on your own it seems.

For the rear doors, you can turn on the child safety locks.

Thanks for that suggestion, I'll give that a try. I didn't consider it because it would be in Dog Mode but maybe this will work. Will let you all know.

This is what I do for my 200 lbs dog, child locks and dog mode for the win. If you have a barrier between the front seat and back, or your dog doesn't go to the front seats this should suffice.

If you're like me, you will forget they are on and keep telling your rear passengers, "just push the button"... and then get frustrated until you realize it's your fault you left child locks on lmao

Child safety enabled and rear window lock also. I had a dog in the back that opened the door, so I put on child safety. Then it stood on the window control.

You just have to remember you have child overrides on when adults sit in the back.

I love that dog.

I also use the child locks as well as the side door covers that Tesla sells with their rear seat cover. It’s very thick and the door button is completely out of reach from my dog ??

The other option is to get the Tesla pet liner for the door guards. That will prevent the dog from stepping on the door release and window buttons.

We have two English Labs, and the door protectors work quite well. We also use a pet hammock seat cover.

They could disable the regular door handles, there would still be the emergency ones available. But maybe Tesla doesn't want to force someone to use those.

One of our cats opened the driver’s window of our M3 and escaped one night while on a road trip a few years ago. (Fortunately we had an AirTag on her and tracked her down.) Later that trip, we were awakened at 3am by the Sentry Mode alarm. I ran down to find the driver’s door unlatched but only slightly open (both cats still inside, fortunately, tho maybe stunned by the alarm). I enabled child locks on rear doors and windows, and my wife cut up some hotel key cards and taped them over the front door and window armrest switches. An inelegant but effective solution that we’ve used ever since.

We’re currently on our first CT road trip with the same Houdini cat. I’ve noticed that when Pet Mode is on, the front windows are deactivated (so says the notification on the display). Sure enough, the owners manual now says the same thing. Is this a recent change? Anyway it solves the OP’s original issue, but not the pet-opening-front-door problem.
