… but you did kind of start the debate didn’t you? Unfortunately, if Tesla had both cameras and lidar, while they were duking it out trying to decide what the skids marks were the car crashes. LiDAR isn’t perfect on its own either, so Tesla might as well try to keep heading in the current direction.This sort of behavior has been discussed here before. Apparently FSD occasionally sees some darkness on the road surface, like a skid mark or an asphalt patch or even a long shadow, misinterprets it as an three-dimensional obstacle, and takes evasive action.
I don't want to start a debate about Tesla's vision-only approach, but it's probably true that lidar- or radar-equipped systems are less likely to make an error of this kind.
