I was able to transfer from my 2019 Model 3, to my 2023 Model Y, and then to my 2024 Cybertruck.Sorry, still not worth $8,000, since not allowed to transfer to a new car thus need to buy again every few years, makes no sense to me other than greed. imagine having to re-purchase all your apps every time you upgrade your phone, wow.
If I hadn't bought FSD, I would have gone the subscription route (~$1,200 a year). Worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.
Here's what Grok had to say about it:
Tesla has a limited-time policy allowing you to transfer Full Self-Driving (FSD) (Supervised) from your current Tesla vehicle to a new one, provided you take delivery of the new vehicle on or after April 24, 2025. This applies if you originally purchased FSD outright (not via subscription) and meet specific eligibility criteria. Here's a breakdown:
Key Eligibility Requirements
- Vehicle Ownership: Both the old and new vehicles must be titled in your name and linked to the same Tesla account. You must retain ownership of the old vehicle for at least 48 hours after the new vehicle's delivery.
- FSD Status: FSD must have been purchased in full (not leased or subscribed) on the old vehicle.
- Exclusions: Cannot transfer from a Foundation Series Cybertruck, Model Y Launch Series, or any vehicle under an active lease. The transfer is a one-time option per current vehicle and only to a new Tesla (not used inventory).
- Process: If you haven't taken delivery yet, notify Tesla in writing to remove FSD from the old vehicle before delivery. The transfer happens automatically upon eligibility confirmation, but your old vehicle will revert to basic Autopilot features only.
- This program is temporary and can end or change at any time without notice; it cannot be applied retroactively.
- Tesla has offered similar transfers periodically in the past (e.g., in 2023 and 2024) to boost demand, but it was unavailable in early 2025 before restarting on April 24.
- For the latest details or to request a transfer, check your Tesla account or contact Tesla support directly, as policies evolve.
