Don’t know when and why it’s changed- my 2018 Model 3 opens and closes garages and works flawlessly. Now I need to subscribe to My Q for the privilege! Why? Tesla is not making any money from this deal ?

Homelink in my 3 is ok at best. The *ONLY* advantage other than no sub is that it works 'offline'. But that's where the advantages end IMO. Homelink is a simple interaction. Not a two-way solution like MyQ is. You can look at the screen and see which garage is open or closed. It can be added to your entire fleet for all users. We have MyQ in 4 Teslas right now for 3 garages. It opens and closes automatically FAR more reliably than my Homelink experience in the 3 was.
Yeah, an additional sub sucks, but it works really well IMO.
The downside would be if you have poor cell service near your home. In that case, a traditional opener will def be best solution.

If you don't want to pay the sub fees, and have decent internet via cell at your location, you can also do this for VERY little money via home automation. I personally use HomeBridge, and you can get a $30-50 solution from companies like Meross which do not require subscriptions and you can create automations based on your cell location and other factors.

Personally, I paid for the long term MyQ subscription instead of a monthly charge simply because of how much better it worked for us.

For $300 you get 10 years of MyQ and it works for multiple Tesla's. Its not as nice as owning a device, but I cant say I have owned many products that last longer than 10 years. So it doesnt really feel like a subscription at that point.

Use a clicker as primary, and Meross for automations and online visibility.

"Can meross really replace MyQ?" Yes, it's just as good, and free forever.

This! I hate subscriptions too.
Agree
I am tired of all of the subscriptions and extended warranties. If I bought only 10% of the offers I would need a subscription/insurance job to pay for them!:ROFLMAO:

Why don't the people complaining about subscriptions take charge of their own lives? If the subscription is not worth it, don't subscribe. Or, if you have to have that functionality without a subscription, buy a vehicle that has it!

No vehicle is ever going to be perfect for everyone or their would only be one choice! Get whatever floats your boat and stop belly-aching that it doesn't have this or that! Life is short, live it on your terms based on things YOU are in control of (like which vehicle you drive).

Whenever Tesla offers lifetime connectivity, buy one then. Always pay for the FSD license as well.

I paid $30 for lifetime MyQ...I bought an OEM clicker on Amazon. Problem solved. You can spend even less if you opt for a generic clicker.
