I’m looking to buy a Cybertruck, but I’ve noticed that there are about 50–60 sitting in a lot near my local Tesla gallery. They’ve been there for at least 1–2 months, and the VIN range on them is between 60k–66k. I’d really prefer a fresh one off the line — like how my two Model Ys were when I got them.

Since there’s existing inventory available, I’m assuming I can’t really "request" a new build, but does anyone know if it’s possible to wait it out for a newer one? Would it make sense to hold off until the end of NEXT quarter when Tesla might release new stock or push more deliveries? Also, does anyone know what the latest VINs being produced are?

Curious if anyone else has been in the same situation or has advice. Appreciate any insights! ?

There is a stop sale in effect.

It takes a few weeks for trucks to get batched, shipped and unloaded. Even in the early days it wasn't unusual to see 8-20 trucks on the lot - but none were available for purchase.

Place an order whenever you're ready to purchase. This isn't fruit, they aren't going stale.

Per Grok, a 50-70 day lot time is average in the industry. Tesla turns a lot quicker than that generally.

It may depend on how "fresh" you want it. According my local Tesla sales manager, all 2025 CTs that qualitfy for the $7500 tax incentive has to be produced after January. So if you order a qualifying 2025 model, it should be relatively fresh with the oldest manufactured starting February 1, 2025.

You can put an order in and require the VIN number to be above 65k, let them know you will reject a vehicle if it is a VIN under 65,000. Friend ordered a new AWD and got a 51k VIN # and rejected it, next one was 63 and he took it.

Place your CT order in person at your local service center, not online.

Inform the Tesla representative that if the truck is not a fresh delivery from TX you will reject the vehicle.

Good to know. Didn’t know. What’s the max number of times you can reject? I heard 3, but not sure if that’s accurate.

Jay Leno has stated that the 481 Duesenberg Model J cars, built in 1928 and 1929, took nearly a decade to sell due to the Great Depression. And here we are again…lol

You lose your $250 deposit each time, so if you had to do it 10x it would be expensive but worth doing a couple times as the cost vs the cost of the vehicle is not significant.

I got a Dec 2024 :(
Do you think my went bad already :)
Kidding, my truck will spend its life out in the Florida sun. I'm ok with it being in a parking lot for a couple of months specially if they are reimbursing me $1000 per month it was sitting (4K discount for buying a 24 instead of a 25)

Oh, I was looking to see what current VINs are, since I just ordered yesterday, and got a VIN assigned. 64xxx. Presumably a 2025, since it qualifies for the tax credit, and presumably doesn't have a cantrail hold, since I've got Saturday delivery scheduled.

The cost of a Dusenberg Model J in 1928 would’ve been the inflation adjusted equivalent of about $500,000.00 today. How it worked was, you paid about $250,000 for the chassis and then had a custom coach built for another 2 to 300,000.

These are not comparable. That is to say, the Cybertruck doesn’t face the same kind of financial headwinds to explain it’s predicament.

• Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD ($79,990): approximately 1.14 times the median U.S. family income.

• CyberBeast ($99,990): approximately 1.43 times median family income.

Compared to the Duesenberg Model J’s which was 6.5 to 10 times median income in 1928, even the highest priced Cybertruck is way more accessible.

I didn't realize that the CT went stale or had a shelf expiration. Am I the uninformed one?

Well, mine is mid feb, not a fan of it sitting out in the elements, when it's going to be garaged and i want to take care of it as best as i can. So that is important to me, but i realize that's not really feasible anyway
