With the new ML/AI, maps aren’t necessary once it knows the route from A to B. (Eventually, not even that) It’s exactly like a human would do it. It will look for signs (I-10 East to BFE) and then what are the lanes choices. And away it goes. The training that is going on is just like a 16 year old learning to drive. It’s going to watch how people do it, and then imitate what it saw when it is in control. And as for the Stop Signs, it will learn not only what a “full stop” looks like, but what a stop sign looks like, what to do when you come up to one, and who goes first and second, Once it knows the route, you’re set. Connectivity is not needed. This is another part of the beauty of ML/AI over millions of lines of code.Yeah, the Tesla nav loses it's mind when connectivity drops. This is not going to work for Cybertruck.
They need to cache the maps, and remember your GPS tracking data, so that you can at least backtrack to where you DID have connectivity.
So the question comes to off-road. IF it sees enough training to recognize rocks v sand v water v mountains, and it has learned you can drive over all these things (with exceptions) then even with a loss of connectivity it should be able to get you there, in the same way you would do it.
