Having issues with navigation voice commands
More often than not, when I use a voice command for the navigation system
Nothing more than the word “navigation “ appears on the screen and the map opens
Doesn’t recognize addresses or destinations
Am I not using the system properly?
I do not have these issues on my “Y”

I've noticed that when I leave my house, there is a delay before navigation commands work. I think it's because it's just as it's leaving my WiFi network and switching back to LTE. At the end of my driveway, out of WiFi range, voice navigation commands work again. Dunno if that's related to what you're seeing, but maybe something to do with a weak network signal?

Once I'm away from the house, navigation commands (e.g. "Navigate home", "navigate to <address>", etc) all work fine.

Generally, I just press the button (don't hold), and just say "take me ..."

home
to work, <restaurant name>, <park name>, <specific address>

Ditto. Press the button, release, and wait a bit for the tone. I like saying, "driving directions to" name of business, address, city, or name of destination.
It doesn't work if there is talking going on with your passenger(s), while you are asking for directions.

It sounds like my family. I frequently have this issue in my 2018 M3, but don't usually have it in my wife's Y. I think it has to do with wifi connectivity because it usually happens when pulling out of my garage or in various areas around town. If you wait for a couple minutes, it goes away. But to make sure you are saying it correctly, I always say "Navigate to Walmart" or "Navigate to address". Check out my easy to use webpage on the browser in your vehicle for simple ways to say the commands:
