Sorry to hear about this.

Based on your pic, and since the glass is laminated, looks like they had a glass breaker and cutter. My understanding of laminated glass is the glass would crack but still be stuck together and the person would have to repeatedly smash and pull it to remove it. But if they have a cutter, it makes it a lot easier.

I’ve been curious how easy it would be to smash the window to get in the car.

Not easy at all; but once the glass is cracked, it can be bent and folded.

Certainly would take longer than the normal smash and grab.
