Should be quite a few great pics at the meetup (May4th), if we can get most of the NJ owners there.
To help the cause, I have created a pdf CyberFlyer. If a few can print it out and see if their SC will display it, it would be nice.. I'll take care of Cherry Hill. Guess that leaves Paramus & Princeton/Lawrenceville. Any other NJ SC's do deliveries yet?

Got all side windows tinted to 5% with ceramic at @XQUIZIT’s shop today. Waiting on supplies for him to do the windshield also at 30%. I’m hoping by our meetup that I have had time to apply my @ProtectaClear and my T-Sportline wheel caps have arrived.

Hey there, good looking!!

I also decided on using @ProtectaClear! I was out on a trip after my pick-up in later March, I am still keeping my CT within 99 miles. Lic plate and title arrived last week and this week, respectively.

Did you apply the ProtectaClear already? I’m trying to find a day when I have 4-5 hours free and also it’s not going to rain. I wanted to do tomorrow but there’s a chance of rain. I contacted their support and they said 24 hours before rain and also less than 80% humidity during application.

Hey Sam,

I watches their YouTube tutorials twice last night. ? I haven't ordered the kit yet, but I will be ordering it soon. I will wait for a sunny day to apply it. In addition, I want to time it right, so that I can apply it right before I go on a trip, so that I can just park my CT inside the garage for an extended period of time and allowing the 4-5 days "curing time" recommended by the manufacturer of @ProtectaClear.

I am totally not against people wrapping their CTs in different colors (except claer film), I think it is cool.... it just me personally don't want to wrap mine, I like it the way it looks and I have a thing for silver color/ bare stainless steel look, especially in vehicle color choice.

I also think it is silly to wrap it with a clear film, after all, is this a truck or not? I think @ProtectaClear makes sense for keeping the original look, give some fingerprint/ nasty bug protection, it is also easily reverseable and economical.

I’m having a custom shop put on ProtectaClear for me right now. The truck has been there for 3 days as I work with them to get it right. I’ll put this in a post later, but it isn’t as easy to apply as it seems. In case someone sees this before I do a full post, a few tips…

1. Put this on in thin layers. While this will result in rainbow-ing and streaks, those will go away with more coats. The shop is doing 3 coats to make sure all panels look good. They had to strip several panels where it was applied thicker due to sagging and dripping. (But they said it wasn’t even that thick)

2. When you apply it thin, it flashes off very quickly and becomes tacky. Within probably 30-60 seconds. I would recommend putting on a little more than a thin layer and smoothing it around very quickly. Then DON’T do anything else. The second it becomes tacky, it grabs fibers from the applicator and they will show in the finish when it dries. That sucks and requires stripping.

3. there is a very fine line between too thin and too thick. Too thick is worse because you need to strip and start over. Too thin is better because you can just put on another coat.

4. Even if you follow all directions exactly, application is still tricky. So don’t expect to be done in 4 hours and not have touch ups.

I hope the truck looks good when I pick it up tomorrow! They are also tinting and putting ceramic on the glass, plastic, and wheels. Excited to see how cool it looks!

Just in case someone says the shop doesn’t know how to do it… We both watched a bunch of videos, read all directions and discussed before they started. I then visited and oversaw some of the application. They have done a lot of stuff for me, and it’s always been excellent. Plus, I am an engineer with some experience in coatings, so I understand how some of this stuff works. It’s just a tricky coating to apply. I saw advice from someone saying just try to do one good coat, but unless you are not picky, I am not sure how that is realistic.

Hopefully this helps. Full post later with results and pictures…

this is a little disheartening because I am not a patient person for finesse work. I tend to get frustrated and impatient and start smashing things. :(

Derek,

Thanks for the great detailed information! Can't wait to see the full post and the after-action poctures later!

Hey Sam,

I am sure we all have great patience here, how many years and months have we waited for our Cybertruck? ?

my lack of patience is specific to tedious detail oriented work like painting and assembly ;)

GM Sam,
Your CT looks great. X did a nice job !!
So you’re not expecting to get pulled over and ticketed at all, for the front windows being tinted? A no-no in NJ.

Plus, you know how NJ loves to take your money, using any excuse they can.
Tinting is an easy and legal excuse.

I don’t know what to expect in terms of getting hassled about the tint. I do know that every cop I know has a full tint on all windows on their personal vehicles :)
