Hi All, possibly a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.

Tonight I pulled what I say was protective film off the pillars and put matrix black vinyl in its place. Was it PPF our trucks came with on the pillars or just protection meant to be pulled off at delivery? Could I have simply put vinyl over top the film that was there if it/was PPF?

As I was pulling off and cleaning glue residue, I was thinking to myself this seems like PPF, but if so it was a crappy install on mine. The driver and passenger fronts had bubbles and looked like shipping protection. The glue residue threw me off.

Hi Seribus,

What you removed was a protective film made of PVC that automotive manufacturers use during vehicle transportation. This film is meant to be removed when you receive your vehicle and isn't intended for long-term use.

Paint protection film (PPF), on the other hand, is made of polyurethane, which enhances its durability and, when installed correctly, should be nearly invisible. Vinyl wraps are also made of PVC but don't last as long.

With many new colored PPF options now available, I recommend choosing PPF over vinyl if possible. Best of luck!
