I was offered to do PPF for windshield since it's so expensive ($1900 for replacement). Is this a gimmick or is this actually a good idea?

You can’t put PPF on a windshield since it’s a blurry/hazy material you wouldn’t be able to see properly. There are windshield protection skins in the same vain that you can get installed that are in a sense PPF for your windshield but not actual PPF

Its real, but its not perfect. I wouldn't recommend it. It doesn't last long and it can make it hard to see over time. Check out this review that made me decide againt it.

That's the first I've heard of installing PPF to the OUTSIDE of a window.
My CT has interior installed 70% nano cermaic PPF by Rayno S9 it blocks heat and UV. Cost was $300 installed. I've always added to the windshields of my cars. Protects dash and people from UV.

This can definitely be done, I have it on my personal R8. It's not quite the same as PPF as it's designed specifically to be installed on a windshield.

Be aware, there are different types of this product and they each have their ups and downs. Some are incredibly hard to install, but very durable (they need to be heat shrunk much like window tint). Others are incredibly easy to install, but not as durable.

For most windshields the job is $450-650, the replacement cost of most vehicles we're installing this on is $2,000+. Some cars that glass is $3-10k, so for those, it's definitely worth it.
