I did my first “long” distance tow with my raft trailer. It is a converted Chevy axel and tons of steel and composite decking so not the nimblest of trailers. Put a 16 ft raft rigged for a three day float and the total weight topped 2,500 lbs.
Leg one: 89 miles at roughly 55 Mph on WA-18 yielding 510 Wh/mi
Leg two: Mostly back country and washboard roads into Macks Canyon on the Deschutes. 59 miles with 10-55 mph speeds. 542 Wh/mi.
Leg three: Shuttle driver going for 11 extra miles of who knows what. Without the raft the consumption was 490 Wh/mi.
Leg four: A faster freeway trip at 65 mph with heavy head winds dropped us down to 584 Wh/mi.
I was nervous about the shuttle crew not being able to figure out the truck so I put some labels on the outside and center console. They got it figured out and left the truck at the confluence of the secures and the Columbia rivers.
