RainX, what's the verdict? Do you use it on your CT or have you had problems?

I have the stock windshield wiper, motor (and even stock wiper fluid still) and the only problem that I have had (after a year and a half) is when it's dewy in the morning. The wiper doesn't wipe it all away and the dew comes back after a few seconds so I have to keep wiping it. I'm considering applying RainX to the windshield but would like to know how many people have regretted doing so. I've already combed the forums and know that some of you have but would like to create a centralized thread containing everyone's experience.
As an aside, this forum (cybertruckownersclub) has been ABSOLUTELY an AMAZING source of information for me and I try to include my experiences as well so that we all develop together. Thank you ALL so much for all of the information that you've provided. This forum and all of you members are a hidden gem in my overall Cybertuck experience and I look forward everyday to read about all of your adventures and experiments!!!!

Highly recommended. They also have a couple other variants as well. Their YouTube channel is a wealth of knowledge.

RainX is only a temporary solution. Apply a good ceramic coat and forget about it for years.

Agree. Had ceramic put on mine after the ppf and it’s a night and day difference.
like a really good egg pan. Including the glass.
Don’t know a specific brand to recommend. Had it done at the wrap shop.

I've tried Gtechniq G1 - great water repelling properties but does not last very long, ineffective after 2 months
Then tried Soft99 Ultra Glaco - much longer lasting, close to a year, and as good water repealing and beading but eventually landed on Glaco DX - it has unreal water repelling beading and even though longevity is 4-6 month, it's very easy to apply/reapply

You currently have it on your windshield? Are there any drawbacks to it?

Yes, like all coatings, they eventually fail. The wiper action on a dirty windshield will hasten the failure. Then you will have a streaky mess that needs to be polished off and re-applied (if you thought it lasted long enough to make it worth it).

I've never applied a coating to my windshield, or replaced my wiper blade, and I don't have any visibility issues in my rainy climate. The windshield sprayer has been software upgraded to disburse twice the amount of liquid after the second stroke if you continue to hold down the button.

I use Rain X on all of my cars on all windows. Where I drive sometimes it is a true life saver. Does not last long to get the highest visibility maybe 30/60 days here where it rains a lot and is hot.
I had ceramic coating applied when wrap was done a year ago and found windshield had a haze similar to the inside off gassing haze on delivery. Took it off in two months. If you’re in an area that you don’t get a lot of rain and you’re just getting dew and dust Perhaps you can use pure silicone spray on the windshield wiper that does help a lot.

I have used rain x on my windshield and agree it’s great for like 2 weeks and it wears off. I get regular washes so that is probably the reason.

I have it on multiple vehicles; no perceivable that I know of. My glass is as almost always spotless. even a good rain will dissipate bug splats too.

most people overuse their wipers. If it wasn't for phantom wipes from FSD, I would have used my wipers a grand total of 2 times in 1 year of ownership. most people seem to want to run their blades at full blast at the first hint of a raindrop.

You must live in the desert!
I use wipers 80 percent of days!
Rain, dew, bugs, dust especially at night. Refill wiper water ( distilled water) at least every two months.

nope, I'm surrounded by swamps. the rake of the windshield + ceramic coating means that I just don't have water sticking to it. very clear visibility in nearly all conditions.

I’m in the process of applying Clean 8-year Ceramic, very DIY friendly. Since this is new for me, I’ve started with the wheels, and then moved up to the roof glass and rear window. Thus far quite impressed.

Next I’ll be replacing the RainX on the windshield with it. I started by using RainX “Xtreme Clean” on a foam pad with a DA polisher until water won’t bead anymore. Unfortunately I’m limited to working outside and the weather has been uncooperative of late.

A hydrophobic coating on the windshield keeps it cleaner, reduces wiper use while improving wiper effectiveness. I’m hoping the ceramic will outlast RainX, which does require periodic reapplication.

Of course, the reduced friction can make the wiper chatter if misaligned. The blade at rest needs to be perpendicular to the glass.

Definitely agree with the ceramic over RainX. Ive always had issues with RainX after it starts to wear off. If you apply a real ceramic coating (the ones in the small glass bottle), you can use a ceramic glass cleaner (3D SiO2 is great) to help refresh/extend the life of the coating.
