Sealing out road dust from the tailgate gap

I was inspired by @ogdobber's method but wanted to use weather stripping instead of adhesive foam strips. After doing some brief research, I found some 15mm thick strips that works well. There is a small amount of pressure applied to the weather strip when the tailgate is closed which is why I prefer it compared to foam as the weather strips should continue to spring back to shape. Overall, it took about 15 minutes of cutting and placing onto the right locations.

I haven't noticed water getting into the bed from this area. Most of the water that comes into mine is at the front, near the rear windshield.

For me, driving through rain, there is always water right by the tailgate, nothing up front.

@devdrone6 I was in the rain for most of the evening tonight both driving and parked. Checked the bed after getting home. Other than some water that came from the front of the bed, the weather strips held up great with no water or dust in the rear by the tailgate

Nice I did the same with mine at the top of the tonneau cover and at the end of the bed.

This gap also allows water and debris to exit the bed… physics, gravity.

2 month update, how well is the weatherstripping holding up and have you had ato replace it? Still dust free?

@Gigahorse since my tonneau leaks water from the front, the residual water eventually caused the adhesive of the strips to come off. Instead of redoing it the same way, I decided to apply the stripping on the wall below the rear windshield so it can create some space between my bed mat and the wall so it pushes the bed mat toward the tailgate. While I don’t think it’s a great solution, it works for now.

Ah bummer.
Service center will fix the cover to make it water tight.
