I bought two sets and they also have the same keys.
That's a good indication that the Tesla shop is intentionally shipping matching sets. If so, that's a favor for buyers of two sets.

If I had two sets with different keys I'd be inclined to have a locksmith rekey on of the sets to match.

I think that’s a reasonable interpretation. But I’m not necessarily sold that they are efficient enough to do that. I’ve seen enough problems with my orders to be suspicious.

We don’t have enough data points to know whether it’s a coinkydink, random or intentional.

Either way, I still don’t think this is a security flaw. It’s pretty common, and somebody climbing up onto my rig to steal my roof racks is about the last thing I’m concerned about with my CB.

I'm so unconcerned that I'd rather there be a simple safety latch instead of a key latch on my crossbars. I only attach mine when I hauling something on them. They are more likely to be stolen from my garage than from my truck!

Just installed two sets of crossbars on my Foundation Series Cyberbeast. Installation was simple and straightforward (pictures included), but I ran into a serious security issue I wanted to bring to the community’s attention.

The crossbars lock with a universal key. To test this, I tried the key from my first order on the second set of crossbars (without opening the keys in the second box), and it worked perfectly. This means anyone with these keys could potentially walk up to any Cybertruck, remove the crossbars, and steal them.

Does anyone have ideas on how to secure these better? Would love to hear thoughts or solutions.

Hi, I helped the team designing these bars. There is a double digit number of unique key combinations and you received two sets with the same combination. Security was a high priority during the design process. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the insight. I’m assuming that’s industry standard for this type of application, is that correct?

I guess this is the double digit number 1XX ^_^

A kind member on this forum sent me a copy of his key and it didn't work for my set.

Good thing Tesla sent out a replacement set, I was able to check the differences on the key.

Tbh, worrying about someone stealing the crossbars would be the last thing on my mind lol.

That's standard for tried and true crossbar manufacturers like the Thules, Kuats, and Yakimas of the world, assuming the product has a security feature. I wouldn't say that's standard across the board for all accessories for all auto manufacturers though. It depends on the design requirements of that particular automotive company and the capabilities of their accessories suppliers.
