That’s interesting that non-FS don’t have the slot/attachments point over the roof glass front and back. I guess it was more cost constructive to leave them out for the base models.
The anchors are there. The appliqué that covers them does not have the cut outs available on vehicles made before 11/14/24. I think that was the cut off if not someone will correct me.

For vehicles after that you will have to find the part number and purchase the appliqué that does have the cut outs in it.

Does anyone know if we could order a set of replacement key? I misplaced them on a trip and now couldn’t put them back on. Support has not responded for 2 weeks :/
If anyone is kind enough to make a copy of their key set I could pay to have it made n shipped.
Thank you!

Hmmm.....

Lost both keys "on a trip". (Likely story!)
Asks for a key (obviously knows one key opens ALL of our crossbars!)
No response from Support (Well, that seems right, at least...)

This could soon be the crossbar villain we've feared would show up as soon as they learned all crossbars use the same key!

Once he has that key, no crossbar-toting Cybertruck with its sentry mode turned off and parked in an ill-lit Walmart parking lot will be safe. Within weeks - or few years for sure - we will all have our crossbars boosted and re-sold to us on eBay! The only answer is: Weld those bars down!

?

(just kidding, under9hell...)

Lol I’ll attach a pic as proof.
Joking aside, if anyone is kind enough to make a copy of the key I’m willing to pay for your trouble. Please PM me, thank you!

That's how new users change from lurkers to posters - something goes wrong and now they need help.

Who’s worried about another CT owner. People steal anything they can these days. Once the thieves figure out how easy it is to take them, it’s possible they start stealing them.

Non-foundation series cannot install two sets of crossbars FYI. They don’t have a slot over the glass roof.
The roof applique on the "non-foundation" builds is just missing the rack doors. You could replace with the old applique (order the two parts) or cut a rectangular hole (4 total) in the plastic to expose the mounting studs. Either way, it's a weak attempt from Tesla at distinguishing the foundation series from the pack. They should have done something more than laser etching, white trim, tires and a roof applique. Sorry off topic but I felt like rambling...

Good idea, get out the ‘ol Dremmel! Thankfully, I got a FS and won’t be tempted to make that decision.

You'll also need eight more of the nuts to secure the brackets.

I just installed the crossbars this weekend. So the the eight doors will open to eight brackets each secured by two nuts on the studs (16 nuts). Here's where it's a little nuts.

The crossbar package contains eight nuts, which is enough to install the brackets in two mounting locations only. BUT the CT had eight nuts from the two mounting locations adjacent to the roof panel glass also installed on the vehicle, I'm guessing for future use. So with the nuts in the box and the nuts on the vehicle it's possible (and I'd recommend doing so) to install all the brackets at once so you have them available for future use.

It wouldn't surprise me if Tesla shorts the non-FS the eight extra nuts, so even if you cut open the sail appliques you may find yourself missing half the nuts required to install all the brackets.

Not sure it's a good idea but an option. Someone will post a template on etsy for a proper location.

Just installed two sets of crossbars on my Foundation Series Cyberbeast. Installation was simple and straightforward (pictures included), but I ran into a serious security issue I wanted to bring to the community’s attention.

The crossbars lock with a universal key. To test this, I tried the key from my first order on the second set of crossbars (without opening the keys in the second box), and it worked perfectly. This means anyone with these keys could potentially walk up to any Cybertruck, remove the crossbars, and steal them.

Does anyone have ideas on how to secure these better? Would love to hear thoughts or solutions.

I can definitely state that not all crossbar sets have the same key as other sets.

I and another owner of Cybertruck crossbars have proved that not all crossbar keys are alike; the key from my set of crossbars was not able to open the other owner's crossbars.

I suspect there are multiple key codes used in the manufacture of the sets, but a relatively limited number of different codes used. Maybe the OP just enjoyed the good luck of receiving two sets with the same key.

If 10 different codes were used in production, the probability of any two set of crossbar have the same key is 1 in 100; low, but it's certainly possible that someone could order and receive two sets with the same key. Or, perhaps whoever was pulling the sets out of stock had some way of determining which sets have the same code - maybe the SKU numbers are different - and did the OP a favor by shipping matching sets.

So rest easy, crossbar owners! There's no significant "security flaw" in your crossbars.

For the OP, if you want a slightly more secure key code for your two sets, any competent locksmith can rekey your crossbar locks. But, personally, I would spend that money on more secure door locks for my home...

I bought two sets and they also have the same keys.
