Hi all,

For all of you that have a polished finish, what do you use to get out the water spots right after rain and driving through muck. I already tried glass cleaner and it took off a lot, but there are a good amount of stubborn spots. I absolutely love the finish and look but my OCD is killing me and i want to attack these spots before they become harder to remove.

Also, if anyone has any tips that would be greatly appreciated! 📐

I once had chrome rims, and never again will I own a set. OCD had me daily out there with chrome polish and it would be hours. If I was to polish mine, I’d definitely wrap it with a clear PPF just to make upkeep that much easier. Living down a dirt road doesn’t help at all either.

Who polished your truck? I would ask them. Google says wipe with half vinegar half water. Or barkeeps soft cleanser should remove it and not affect the finish. But I would test a very small spot in the lowest part of the truck.

In a previous life I worked at a body shop and we used a compound and polish that didn’t use abrasives, it’s a chemical cut I guess? Called “clean cut” and the pink one you want smells like bubble gum. Looks like their store is down (and from 1996 lol) but I can attest they and their products are legit. The pink has worked when other products wouldn’t, for cleaning off marks, smudges, oddball blemishes… great stuff.

Go to “compounds” and once their store is back up get the pink one.

Try 99% isopropyl alcohol. I've been using it for regular maintenance and it's working super. Better than glass cleaners.

Spray away or 99% isopropyl alcohol + elbow grease. The guys from AMP suggested a Chemical Guys product.

If these are hard water spots, it's just mineral deposits left behind. On painted vehicles this is typically handled by acidic solutions. Luckily there are some options:

Citrisurf 77: Tesla's spec'd stain remover and passivation liquid (it's mostly just citric acid, around pH 1.5-2). Just careful not to use an abrasive pad with this so you don't mess up the mirror finish.

Cyberbrite: a forum sponsor that seems to have good reviews from forum members. No personal experience, but I did buy some to try out.
