I can't help but think the negativity in media is from entities paying for it and less on politics of Elon. A question to grok about the big three ratios of cars sold and trucks sold reveal some interesting thoughts of why the big three would be motivated to negatively influence away from CTs. also consider that how few big three cars you see. they are mostly foreign like KIA, Hyundai, and Toyota . The Big three's money makers are trucks and they sure don't want to lose that market. .I honestly don't think the bad press helps the CT or Tesla in general. Sadly, I think it triggers a lot of people when they see one.
While I don't have a CT, I have several Teslas and been in the ecosystem for some time. I am still on the fence about buying a CT. I had a CB reservation but when my time came to order I punted. I had a chance to drive one and it triggered concerns and at the same time, there was a lot of animosity starting to ramp up over Elon and the brand.
I thought it would be prudent to wait and see how things played out both from a reliability perspective and how the CT fared in the market.
I recently drove one again and I was shocked how much hate there was even in a pretty much conservative area. I am also shocked by the amount of hate on some forums towards the CT and owners.
I think there are some amazing things about it. To be fair, I think Tesla also made some bad design decisions too. I am on the fence about buying a CB or maybe going with a quad motor Rivian R1T when they finally come out.
The way the sales numbers are shaping up, who knows how long Elon's pride might keep it around. If it doesn't sell, then obviously aftermarket support will dry up too. I see that with my S compared to my 3 as an example. I've also bought a car that turned out to be a orphan and it wasn't a pleasant experience.
If Tesla had made the CT a bit more mainstream, it might have sold in greater numbers. Sadly I don't think his politics are helping either. I absolutely support the trimming of budgets, but his open involvement i politics clearly has alienated a lot of people that his core demographic previously. At the same time, I am not sure how many would want a pickup instead an SUV. Some of the renderings I've seen for a Cybertruck version of an SUV look pretty cool. Obviously the market is bigger for SUVs than pickups and the X is more like a minivan anyway.
I hope the CT will survive but I also hope Elon will pivot and make a more mainstream pickup with all the cool things about the CT. At the same time please give me front display like my S, and a much more upscale interior while you are at it.
