Ford declared $25 billion dollars in profits last year. With a b. An increase of over 9% over last year. And there was a 9% over the year before. And the year before that, it was ~20% over year two prior. This is, of course, after wages, which haven't been keeping pace with inflation.

I think they can manage

And they're asking for 6-hour shifts.

Saying 'oh no, that's alot of money!' Is dumb, to run 24-hour shifts you don't pay everyone to come in and staff the full 24 hours. You don't need all the administrative, maintenance, janitorial, etc staff to be there all the time. Yeah, they have more work to do, but it's not 2x more. Things scale.

And, they're already paying these workers. So taking the whole number ignores that these workers are already getting ~75% of the wages and 100% of the benefits already.

It is a rare moment in history when the worker has some small advantage and I am glad to see it being moved on. For decades labor has been cut down, farmed out and replace. The second there is a more friendly labor environment the CEO cry poor me, while taking huge gains and bonus packages for the last decades.
My employer is making more money that ever in its history and is seeing the writing on the wall. They are faced with having no ability to grow if they cannot entice new employees. With a big shortage in the work force the completion between the big air carriers has really helped the wages of the airline employees. It would be great to have shorter shifts but I don't see that in our future.

The strength of the US is the immigrant and renewal of the innovation and culture. We have many sins to repent for but going forward we want immigration because look at Europe and the dying cultures there. Only by continuing to innovate and broaden the ideas can the US continue to be the light that attracts those longing to be free.
