The demise of ICE was always on the horizon. EVs were here in 1832 but the cost of storing energy in fuel was better/cheaper than the tech to store electrical energy. The trend in battery improvement continues to happen and EVs will be the future as BEVs are simpler and efficient . The investment in the whole fossil fuel energy/transportation infrastructure are the chains pulling down the old car makers. They can try to make EVs but they will need many years before they can ditch ICEs.
Elon is and thinks like an engineer and I doubt he has any CEO types trying to keep him down.
