in poor America the birthplace of Tesla-people are stuck in the past b/c of brand loyalty to the legacy autos. :D

I am sure gas prices had nothing to do with it combined with their highbrow view of local processing vs. importing.

US jump in prices was not close to what they saw.

Tesla vehicle sales are recovering in Europe, which is good news. Sales peaked in 2023, fell in 2024, fell again in 2025, but are growing again in 2026 (through May).

But two caveats. First, 2026 sales are still below the peak levels of 2023, so they haven't fully recovered as yet. Second, the European BEV market is significantly larger now than it was in 2023. So even if Tesla sales fully recover to 2023 levels, Tesla will still be below the peak in terms of market share.

The outlook in the US is not as good as in Europe. So far in 2026, BEV sales in the US appear to be down relative to 2025. The loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit in October 2025 is probably a bigger factor than "brand loyalty to the legacy autos".

For 1Q 2026, Tesla vehicle sales in the US were down by 8.4% relative to 1Q 2025. The only consolation is that Tesla outperformed the BEV market in general, which was down by 27.0%. Should get 2Q 2026 numbers next month.

BEV sales are booming worldwide, except in US/Canada. For 2026 (through May), the global BEV sales numbers looked like this:

3,900,000 China (51%)
2,000,000 Europe (26%)
580,000 North America (8%)
1,100,000 Rest of World (15%)

The US was once a leader in terms of BEV sales and adoption, but now we are way behind. This is not good for Tesla, because the US BEV market is where Tesla is most dominant and most profitable.

I can only buy so many.....

I told my wife we should get an old Tesla for the teen car but she insists teen needs to learn on gas car since they will most likely have that for their first car. I hate to buy a non-tesla - I have become a super fan since I got my first and they are so amazing.
