I saw this on Reddit with Model 3s

I was reading the comments about the possible ways this can be done. Could this happen to our trucks?

They’re all saying PIN to drive now which I don’t want to do because extra step.
I like getting in and auto shift out and be on my way.

Good question, if simple PIN keeps your CT from driving off, all for it.

You really do need to use PIN to drive on Teslas. You will get used to it. You also need to make sure you have MFA enabled on your Tesla account, and make sure to never sign into it on an open Network, like say at a Supercharger, where your car automagically connects to the Wifi network there....which can be easily spoofed into a malicious open network were you to log into Tesla account on could compromise that tesla log in....allowing someone to simply turn OFF your PIN to drive beause Tesla apparently refuses to identify that as a security risk, leaving control o fPIN to drive in the app.

I suggest anyone who has not taken the time to educate themselves on some of the vulnerabilities of Teslas, they should. Only at risk if you are naive about security, as with any other tech we use. There are risks out there, don't be a boomer about it. Ask Copilot to explain how to secure your Tesla if you are completely lost.
I’m not using pin to drive. I have comprehensive insurance for a reason. If somebody steals my Tesla we’ll know exactly where it is.

There is no market to resell these cars if they’re stolen. Parts? Tell me all about this lucrative market for CT or even MS/MX hot/stolen fenders wheels and whatnot?

So, it’s a joyride ending in a jail sentence or smash and grab which can happen in any car. ??‍♂

Meanwhile, you’re definitely consuming too much sodium if you’re an American. Worry less about non-issues.

Perhaps you’ve not dealt with insurance claims in the past but you’re going to loose money if someone joyrides your CT around a tree.

Also, not sure why you have to try taking a shot at Americans…I’m just trying to help

Have a great day. Dick.

I don’t often delete posts. But I was just trying to help. However certainly not interested in this type of discourse, have a good day.
As an insurance defense lawyer: Yes, I deal with insurance companies, continually. As to the rest, ??‍♂

You offered an opinion, I offered an alternative one. Not sure what you think is supposed to happen here. Nary an exclamation point, all caps or harsh word.

Looks like the post was deleted, but to comment on one technical aspect :

and make sure to never sign into it on an open Network, like say at a Supercharger, where your car automagically connects to the Wifi network there....which can be easily spoofed into a malicious open network were you to log into Tesla account on could compromise that tesla log in
TLS (Transport Layer Security - used to be called SSL) is used for all serious (as in not developed by 12 year olds) application communications these days, including Tesla app and vehicle comms. While TLS itself can be theoretically compromised, it's not something that can realistically happen in the above described scenario.

Not using a pin to drive is well, just dumb. It takes 3 seconds to utilize. One would really like their vehicle taken on a joy ride and returned with damage or bio crap just because using a pin to drive is a hassle ? Rubbish.

Teslas can be stolen using a relay attack. There have been instances of it occurring, but it's more advanced than your typical thief's capability.

Pin to drive is a safeguard, but it's rare compared to normal vehicles.

https://www.wired.com/story/tesla-ultra-wideband-radio-relay-attacks/

More info:

The Tesla Model 3 electric four-door 4WD, a midsize luxury car, and the Tesla Model Y electric four-door 4WD, a midsize luxury SUV, had the low- est relative whole vehicle theft claim frequencies at just 3 percent of the all- passenger-vehicle average.

Tesla recommends pin to drive in the instance of relay attacks.

The CT would be stolen in the same manner. So it's relevant. The CT doesn't have any additional safeguards than the M3.

Call it what you want.

But, unless I move a known criminal into my home (or become concerned about my physical cards or other RFID devices being stolen), I’ll never do it. I’m fully capable of doing my own risk analysis and have made choices that I am entirely comfortable with on this front. Which is the only assertion that I ever made.

Perhaps others have chosen to be under-insured or have only one vehicle such that losing one would be a catastrophe. That’s their choice to make/circumstance and cross to bear.

I don’t know that anybody, anywhere on this thread suggested it was “too hard to do” other than a strawman argument presented by the guy who literally couldn’t handle someone having and expressing a different opinion, and now picked up by you. ??‍♂

Yep, followed that closely when published. My mother and grandmother live together in a quiet suburb and have wrought iron doors in front of their deadbolt locked solid wood doors also outfitted with door jammers/door braces to keep someone from kicking the door in.

They also have deadbolts that require keys and don’t have a handle so if the house caught on fire they wouldn’t be able to get out unless the key was in the lock and they don’t keep it in it.

We pick our own prisons by degrees and types of risks we can tolerate.

Here’s what’s true: it’s all impermanent and we are not safe.

Everyone has to do whatever provides them the level of illusion that they need.

Agreed. I don't use pin to drive. It's not worth the inconvenience. As you said, I have insurance and Teslas are stolen at such a ridiculously low rate.

I only posted to say this is possible and does occur.

I have a strong feeling it was just staged to spread Tesla hate.
