I was thinking essentially like the mat clear PPF on every other slat and then maybe cut out stars. 🤔
I don’t think that would work, (technically yes) but the slats are too thing and the flag would be sized weird there, plus you’d need to add Extra where the flags are.

So I know Tesla adds slats to the tonneaus pretty frequently. How big of pain in the ass would it be to remove them for powdercoating and then reinstall?

Me too. And you’d get an actual rear window out of the deal.
And if you have an enclosed bed cap, an actual second floor you could load stuff on or put a mattress on.
I'm constantly loading cargo in the bed that fits in the forward part of the bed with the tonneau cover locked but not towards the rear of the truck (which is only as tall as a legacy 1/2-ton truck bed with tonneau cover).

One of the best features of the Cybertruck, IMO, is it's automatic tonneau, strong enough to walk on, and high enough to enclose taller tools and equipment. My F-150 required stuff too tall to sit in the rear of the truck, out in the weather and subject to theft with the tonneau partly open.

Anyone think this a terrible idea?
There is a long American tradition that tattered and distressed American flags should be respectfully retired, not flown in a distressed state. Out of respect, I think the same applies to images of distressed flags.

Good point I wasn’t referring to this specific graphic. Just to the idea of putting a wrap on the slats and whether it’s likely to cause issues with the tonneau mechanism.
In my case the graphic would be something else entirely and probably bluey related.
I fly the star spangled banner respectfully on my house but I’ve never really cared for putting it on a vehicle.

The slats come powder coated from the factory. It would not be a small job, or inexpensive, to re-powder coat them and you would run the risk of having a worse paint job, that failed sooner.

True, but if it were very important to you to have a color other than black or a design, I’d think powder coating would probably be the most durable approach. What I’d worry about with wrap is it coming off inside the mechanism and screwing everything up.

Yeah. Saw those. Just a little worried about trashing the mechanism if anything comes off the slats inside there.
